New supper spot alert: Shifu Food Court at Bras Basah Complex opens 24/7 with ke kou mian, ramen and more!
Most night owls in Singapore have their favourite supper spots. Just think: Serangoon Gardens, Bedok 85, Swee Choon et al.
Sometimes though, the supper spots just aren’t very convenient for everyone. That’s where the new Shifu Food Court at Bras Basah Complex comes in.
Shifu, which has been open since 2001, recently received a facelift and has reopened as a swanky 24/7 food court!
Located just a few minutes away from the City Hall and Bras Basah MRT stations, there’s no doubt Shifu Food Court is one of the most convenient spots for those late nights spent carousing about town.
The rejuvenated food court now comes vibrantly jazzed up with LED neon signs, murals and fairy lights, so it certainly stands out from the usual food courts!
More importantly, Shifu Food Court provides a diverse collection of 14 different hawker stalls and can host up to 430 guests, with comfy air-conditioned indoor and vibey al fresco seating available.
Do note that while the food court itself is open 24/7, not all stalls operate round the clock and it depends on individual opening hours.
14 stalls giving diverse options
One stall at Shifu Food Court that will surely capture attention is Ah Gong KKM.
Most party-goers would probably be familiar with ke kou mian — this popular instant-noodles-based dish is most famously sold by Hai Xian Zhu Zhou at Bukit Panjang, which usually gets swarmed in the wee hours of the morning.
The 24/7 stall is a new brand started by a 22-year-old NUS student, who had learned the recipe from her ah gong (grandpa), and the spicy KKM (from S$5.50) is just as tangy and rich as the more established stall in Bukit Panjang.
The KKM is available with ingredients including pork, clam, prawns —there’s even a combo of all three — and come in both small and large sizes!
Another interesting option at Shifu Food Court is Chun Noodle Bar’s newest outlet. If you haven’t heard of it, this unique wanton mee stall is known for adding truffle pate to the classic noodle dish!
Their truffle char siu wanton noodle (S$9.50 for small, S$11.50 for large) comes with thin al dente noodles that are nicely spruced up by the fragrance of truffle, along with tender slabs of char siew.
Shifu Food Court serves up a curated and diverse slew of cuisines, including stalls such as Thai Chef, Sultan Curry Indian Muslim Cuisine and Penang Island.
Oh, and Japanese lovers would be pleased to hear that there are two choices for you: Okinawa Ramen and Haru-Haru Japanese Rice.
The former serves up affordable ramen, while the latter focuses on donburi bowls and is particularly known for decadent mentaiko-slathered dishes such as the crunchy and airy mentaiko chicken katsu (S$8.90).
With all these options, if you’re working in the area, maybe it’s time to pop by. Or, if you’re looking to head out and paint the town red, bookmark this for your next supper escapade!
