There’s a new coffee gem that’s making waves on social media: Hideout Coffee Bar Singapore

Despite its recent launch on Jul 29, it has already garnered its fair share of online fame, with many eager to snag a cuppa.

That’s because this spot stands out from its peers, thanks to its secluded whereabouts. It’s sequestered in a back alley of the Geylang neighbourhood — much like a secret hideout.

Hideout Coffee Bar’s hidden venue lends it an elusive and mysterious vibe, as if it were an exclusive joint that only close-knit friends and family would know about.

Despite Hideout Coffee Bar’s out-of-the-way location, it’s surprisingly not difficult to locate its entrance once you’re there.

Just turn the corner to enter the back alley, where a row of army-green camping chairs and long queues outside the shop will catch your eye — that’s how you know you’ve found the cafe.

When we arrived around noon, the place was already packed with the lunch crowd. All the seats in the shop were occupied, so we lounged on its al fresco chairs instead.

But if you’re not a fan of the heat, then the best time to make a pit stop is when the cafe opens.

Adding to Hideout Coffee Bar’s charm is its unique ordering system, where its staff takes orders through a window — a literal hole-in-the-wall. While you’re waiting for your orders to be prepared, you’ll get a full view of baristas working the coffee machine, brewing and steaming cuppas from scratch.

What’s on the menu

We’re not kidding when we say that the sammies at Hideout Coffee Bar are seriously stacked. If you like your meats thick (pun intended) and buns fluffy, then this is the place to be.

The folks here are generous with their ingredients — the sandwiches are loaded with a deluge of mouthwatering fillings, making for hearty brunch grub

The first item we ordered was the cold cuts sandwich (S$17), which comes layered with slices of ham, salami, olives, and cheese, among others. Not only was there a balanced bun-to-ingredient ratio, but there were also varying flavours and textures in every bite, which we relished.

Another classic pick on the menu is the brisket sandwich (S$17), which is as well-loved as the cold cuts sandwich

Here, juicy and succulent strips of beef brisket take the limelight. Bringing out its savouriness is the addition of crunchy pickles, which add a welcome salty-sour tang to the umami-rich dish. The meat is also lean and tender — just the way we enjoy our brisket.

For dessert, we got a peanut chocolate cookie (S$5). It’s an irresistible combination of peanuts and chocolate chips, which happens to be one of our favourite flavour pairings.

Boasting a slightly crisp outer shell, the cookie breaks apart to reveal a fudgy middle that oozes decadent chocolate fudge. The peanuts also elevate the treat by sprucing it up with crunch and nuttiness, making it all the more indulgent and sinful.

Hideout Coffee Bar specialises in coffee drinks, so it’s no surprise that its hot flat white (S$6) impressed us with its bold espresso notes and creamy top.

It’s an aromatic, velvety cuppa that perks you up from the first sip.

The drinks menu mostly leans towards coffee beverages, but there are non-caffeinated options, if you prefer.

There’s the iced matcha (S$7.50), which is smooth and milky. However, we found the mellow, earthy notes usually savoured in matcha-based teas to be missing here.

We also felt that the beverage could benefit from an added splash of sugar syrup for more flavour.
