Elijah Pies launches new menu for 10th anniversary with new pistachio pie and matcha drinks
Ten years is a long long time in the F&B industry, where things are in constant flux and restaurants and cafes can shutter with little notice.
Fortunately for the pastry lovers of Singapore, pie specialist Elijah Pies has persisted and is now celebrating its tenth anniversary!
It all started from 2014, when owner Elijah sought to impress his then-girlfriend, Limin, with his own version of a Nutella pie.
In a blink of an eye, it’s been ten years and he and his now-wife have built Elijah Pies into a cult-favourite brand with its own legion of loyal followers, even though it was an takeaway-only business for most of its existence.
That was until last year, when the couple opened Elijah Pies’ first dine-in space at Tanjong Pagar, a voguish space that’s reminiscent of a living room.
To celebrate an impressive decade in the business, the cafe will be launching a refreshed menu, with a slew of new food and drinks on Nov 16!
Elijah’s new pies
One of the most exciting new introductions to the menu? A pistachio praline pie (S$9.50 for a slice)!
Whole pistachio pies are not a common find in Singapore, despite the nut’s popularity, and Elijah Pies’ rendition comes loaded with creamy pistachio cremeux, atop a bed of crunchy praline.
It’s fragrant, rich and nutty, but well-balanced — the textural contrast between the velvety cremeux, the delicate layer of praline and crumbly shortcrust pastry base is sublime.
One of the biggest changes to this refreshed menu is to the savoury pies section: Elijah Pies has added three brand-new flavours, for a total of nine.
If you’re a croissant lover, Elijah’s big breakfast pie (S$14.90) is worth a try, since the crust uses a croissant-style laminated dough that gives it plenty of flaky and crackling oomph.
The pie is topped with a gooey egg and the insides are stuffed full of garlic cream cheese and chicken ham — a very comforting mix of creaminess and umami that’s almost like a carbonara sauce.
The other two were interesting creations, which condense popular savoury dishes into pies.
Japanese food aficionados will be stoked to hear that the wagyu sukiyaki pie (S$18.90) features slices of A5 wagyu beef over a Japanese mashed potato salad base — very rich and gratifying.
For a twinge of local flavours, Elijah Pies also recreates the quintessential local dish of laksa into a snow crab laksa pie (S$16.90), which contains an indulgent and fragrant laksa filling and is adorned with generous chunks of snow crab.
For the matcha girlies
While pies are the protagonists at Elijah Pies, the beverage options aren’t as an afterthought here.
Instead, the cafe complements its pies with a creative and fleshed-out collection of drinks, such as the crowd-pleasing vanilla pistachio (S$8.90).
But as we all know, matcha is the most on-trend drink right now, so it’s only natural the cafe has expanded its matcha section – now with four options on offer.
Besides the classic matcha latte (S$6.90) and dirty matcha (S$7.90), Elijah Pies has added two TikTok-viral options of matcha strawberry (S$8.50) and matcha mango (S$8.50).
The matcha is not too grassy or bitter, and goes nicely with the fruits. In particular, the mango was quite interesting as the tropical fruit’s vibrance is complemented surprisingly well by the earthy matcha.
Mini pies for festivities
To cap it all off, Elijah Pies has also launched a slew of new mini pies that are great for takeaway and gifting.
There will be a Xmas mini pies box (nine flavours, S$31.90) that’s available from November 28.
The flavours in the box are:
- Taro mochi (new)
- Salted caramel pudding (new)
- Honey yuzu (new)
- Pandan coconut (new)
- Matcha latte (new)
- Earl grey rose
- Nutella
- Pistachio cheesy
- Wild berry lavender
Plenty of reasons to head down: A great gift idea, hearty savoury pies, interesting matcha drinks, or satisfying your pistachio cravings.
