The new Rostii at Telok Ayer serves up delicious potatoes with tender beef brisket

Angeline Ang | July 10, 2025

It’s hard not to love a good plate of crispy potatoes.

Rostii, a new rosti-focused spot in Telok Ayer, takes the humble Swiss dish and runs with it — from the golden-brown crisp of its potatoes, to its various topping choices that complete the experience.

Behind the concept is Isrudy Shaik, the founder of the award-winning halal steakhouse Asap & Co

What started as a personal kitchen project — a desire to create halal and delicious rosti — quickly gained traction. The home experiment turned into a crowd favourite, and it wasn’t long before a successful pop-up proved its potential.

Naturally, the next step was a permanent home. In mid-June, Rostii officially opened near Telok Ayer MRT — just around the corner from Asap & Co.

The star: The rosti

The brand sticks to russet potatoes, oven-baked for under ten minutes till golden and crisp. It is then served fresh from the oven, instead of being fried — no greasy slabs, here.

The result? A rosti with crunchy exterior and a fluffy, soft interior that pulls apart with ease.

It’s buttery, warm, and well-seasoned — simple, but done right.

There is the option to eat this classic Rostii (S$5) by itself, and it definitely holds up well on its own.

The scene-stealer: Wagyu brisket

The highlight for us was its signature smoked wagyu brisket Rostii (S$15).

The brisket is smoked till beautifully juicy and tender — pull-apart pieces of beef that melt into the rosti’s crispy edges and soft interior. It was so good, we polished off every last bite.

A side of jalapenos adds the right kick to cut through the richness.

Sharing the limelight

There’s also the chicken herb sausage Rostii (S$12) — juicy, well-seasoned, and adds the savouriness to the dish that complements the rosti.

If beef is not your thing, this one still hits the spot.

The smoked salmon Rostii (S$12), on the other hand, felt a little more subdued. Compared to the bolder flavours of the other toppings, the salmon didn’t stand out as much.

Still, it was soft and gently briny — great for if you want something lighter and more delicate.

We also tried the beef gochujang (S$8) on the side — and it delivered. It is sweet, savoury and perfectly spiced, while the sauce clings to its crispy rosti strands. Honestly, I could eat that gochujang on its own (and did!).

For an extra S$5, you can complete your meal with a set, which comes with a fresh lemonade — a much-needed thirst-quencher in the afternoon heat — and a cookie for a sweet finish.

Don’t discount this as an afterthought — we found the cookie soft, chewy, and just sweet enough without tipping into indulgence.

If you’re ever in the Telok Ayer area, Rostii is worth a stop. It makes for a great lunch option — tasty, satisfying, and portioned just right so that you can still get on with your day without a food coma.

And if you’re anything like me, you’ll want to come back for that brisket!
