Mensho X at Raffles Place: Everything under S$22, by famous ramen brand Mensho Tokyo
If there’s a Japanese dish that Singaporeans absolutely adore, it’s ramen, for sure. And while our sunny island is already brimming with ramen joints, a new contender has made its debut right in the heart of town.
Opened just yesterday (July 14), Mensho X marks the latest, bold venture of Mensho Tokyo by distinguished ramen veteran Tomoharu Shono.
If you didn’t already know, Mensho Tokyo launched its first Singapore outpost at Raffles City a year ago — quickly winning hearts with its high-quality ramen.

Like its sibling concept, the all-new Mensho X brings a fresh, dynamic twist on ramen. The “X” — short for “express” — is a nod to the pace of modern city life.
“I wanted to create a ramen experience that reflects the rhythm of today’s world — fast, bold, and full of energy,” says chef Shono.

While Mensho X keeps to the fundamental principles of ramen, the menu is reimagined through thoughtful technique.
Here, there’re three types of housemade noodles — ramen, tsukemen, and mazemen — made from a proprietary flour blend, along with a lighter, silkier toripaitan (chicken) broth that is simmered with kelp, and shiitake and porcini mushrooms.
Each bowl is then carefully put together — all its elements are designed to complement each other, so that each spoonful is brimming with flavour.

Mensho X’s intimate 46-seat space at Raffles Place is also tailored towards CBD folks seeking a quick, yet comforting ramen bowl without cutting corners on taste.
We hear that Mensho X is also gearing up to launch a second outlet at Resorts World Sentosa, complete with a line-up of outlet-exclusive dishes — something for ramen fans to look forward to!

A proud creation that you can’t miss out on is the Firebird ramen (S$20) that features chashu, spicy minced pork, king oyster mushroom menma (bamboo shoots), and red and green onions.
True to its name, this spice-packed bowl comes with a bold, layered punch that brings together two types of chili powder, numbing Sichuan pepper, and a rich swirl of black garlic oil.
It’s reminiscent of malatang, albeit jazzed up with a fiery, but well-tempered, kick that is deeply addictive.
The sake kasu-marinated kurobuta pork ribeye chashu is another highlight. The protein is first marinated for 24 hours, then slow-cooked for 12 hours, to give its tender, yet not too overly fatty texture.
If you’re a wei la (mildly spicy) eater — just like me — you’d do just fine, though having a cup of water by the side would be helpful as you slurp on.

The toripaitan tsukemen (S$19) may look unassuming, but it delivers a delightful surprise with its yuzu-infused toripaitan dipping broth.
Similar to the Firebird, it sees the usual suspects of kurobuta pork ribeye chashu, king oyster mushroom menma, red and green onions. Meanwhile, a sprinkle of porcini powder adds a lovely umami depth to the soup.
What stood out for us were the subtle, piquant yuzu notes that cut through the richness of the creamy toripaitan broth. Paired with the thin, QQ noodles, this is another solid bowl that hits the spot.

To complement its ramen, Mensho X has a few sides up its sleeves, including smaller-sized rice bowls with Hokkaido’s Nanatsuboshi rice.
While we were there, we tried the soon-to-launch spicy umami soboro don (S$8.80, ground meat), which is topped with spicy minced pork, green onions, and a pasteurised egg yolk.
Each spoonful brings together a hearty, well-balanced medley of flavours — though be warned, it packs more heat than the Firebird ramen, which might make this the perfect bowl for those with more adventurous palates.

If raw egg is not quite your thing, the negi chasu rice bowl (S$8.80) is your next go-to.
Featuring braised pork chashu, green onions, and nori, the bowl comes together really nicely, especially with the addition of housemade chilli paste that adds just the right kick, without being too overwhelming.
Mensho X is definitely right up your alley if you’re craving a delicious, fuss-free ramen fix while you’re in the CBD area!
