The latest to join the fray of buzzy dessert spots in town is Homm Dessert Singapore at Raffles City Shopping Centre, a beloved Thai-style dessert cafe hailing from Melbourne

If you haven’t heard of them, Homm Dessert is a cult-favourite brand that’s revered for its delicious bingsu (Korean shaved ice) and shokupan (Japanese milk bread) treats that come elevated with a unique Thai twist — promising sweets that are a notch up from the usual traditional Thai desserts.

After first opening in 2023, the popular dessert chain has finally landed in Singapore, with its first Singapore outpost set up in an accessible, central location at Raffles City Shopping Centre

Officially launched on October 16, Homm Dessert Singapore marks its first-ever overseas store outside of Melbourne. According to Bass, this outlet is also a testing ground for the Southeast Asian market.

Homm Dessert is the successful brainchild of business partners Chayathorn Sakdatorn (who goes by the name Bass), 31, and Praewthip Saithai, 34, who goes by the name Proud.

Both are originally from Chiang Mai, but are currently based in Melbourne.

The dessert brand came about as they wanted to create an innovative dessert concept where familiar Thai flavours are weaved into well-loved desserts such as bingsu, shokupan and even milk tea beverages.

Homm Dessert is also Bass and Proud’s way of putting a fun and novel spin on traditional Thai desserts, while paying homage to their Thai roots, making for a one-of-a-kind dessert experience in Melbourne, and now Singapore.

Proud helms the research and development for Homm Dessert’s menu, formulating recipes for the brand, while Bass manages social media and marketing.

Proud prides herself on perfecting all the treats served at Homm Dessert, utilising only fresh fruits and premium ingredients in her creations, sans any artificial add-ons. In doing so, she hopes diners can fully savour the natural aromatic flavours in each dessert.

A former air stewardess with Singapore Airlines, Proud also takes inspiration from the various flavours she’s tried on her travels and incorporates them into her creations.

One such item is the coconut pandan shokupan (S$18.80), which comes with Proud’s housemade pandan kaya spread.

Proud had lived in Singapore for three years while working as a cabin crew and became well acquainted with our local fare, such as kaya. She enjoyed it so much that she wanted to create her own special blend of kaya, too.

She then went on to experiment with different recipes in the kitchen, and eventually settled on the velvety, fragrant spread you find on its bestselling coconut pandan shokupan today.

For this dish, a generous serving of creamy, aromatic pandan kaya is doused over two slices of toasted shokupan, which come lightly bruleed for a textured, caramelised top. The jam was mildly sweet and fragrant, and turned out to be surprisingly light on the palate.

You also get a dollop of coconut gelato with the fluffy shokupan, a sprinkling of crunchy roasted coconut crumble, and even an additional side dish of coconut sauce and chewy pumpkin bob. You can opt to add these additional sides to your dessert, though we feel it still tastes perfectly indulgent without the embellishments.

Despite the many elements on the plate, all of them came together well. The shokupan also held up till we were ready to eat, without going soggy at all — a sign of a Japanese milk bread done well.

Another bestseller on Homm Dessert Singapore’s menu is the Thai tea Avalanche bingsu (S$19.80), which will surely turn heads from the moment it arrives at the table, thanks to its vibrant orange hues.

The “avalanche” happens tableside —  the dessert comes protected by a plastic sleeve when it is served, so diners can experience the thrill of triggering the flood of ingredients on their own.

Once you let it all out, a milky moat of whipped cream cheese, gelato and buttery sable surrounds the tea-flavoured bingsu.

The bingsu is prepared using two secret tea blends, specially formulated to bring out a light and earthy flavour. The resulting concoction isn’t too sweet, with fragrant tea notes coming through well.

Compared to the other eye-catching desserts on the menu, the butter-toasted shokupan with Homm’s signature dips (S$12.80) is a lesser-talked-about item, perhaps because of how simple it looks.

True to its appearance, it’s a straightforward, no-frills treat. Commonly enjoyed as a late-night snack in Thailand, the butter-toasted shokupan, comes cut into manageable bite-sized cubes and is accompanied by three different dips.

This dish is the perfect example of the phrase “less is more” — here, you get to savour the bread in its unadulterated, buttery goodness, or you can also opt to have it with its various dips  — it’s entirely up to you.

If you enjoy your desserts with a bit more bite, then we reckon you’ll enjoy the salted egg pain perdu (S$13.80). It’s a sweet-savoury combination of deep-fried toast injected with silky salted egg sauce, topped with a scoop of coconut gelato.

Once you cut into the warm, crispy bread, decadent salted egg sauce oozes from its centre — you’ll want to eat it once you cut into it to enjoy the warm egg sauce in all its glory.

As delicious as it was, it did feel a tad surfeiting as we continued to dig into it, so we’d recommend that you get this to share between friends, instead of having it all on your own.

Coffee enthusiasts will also find an eye-watering lineup of brews on Homm Dessert Singapore’s menu

There’s the signature Thai iced latte (S$6.80), which is a piquant option layered with coffee and condensed milk. The Eclipse (S$6.80) which packs a fizzy punch with mango passion puree mixed with sparkling water and espresso, is pretty delicious, too.

Non-coffee drinks can also try its iced drinks, which come in an assortment of colours and flavours. Some eye-catching ones include the nom yen (S$4.80) — a pink sala fruit latte — and Twilight (S$5.80), a mango passion drink topped with butterfly pea tea, for example.

Overall, Homm Dessert Singapore introduces a fun and homely dessert concept that we enjoyed, and its tantalising desserts make the dining experience all the better.
