Tous Les Jours Singapore: French-inspired Korean bakery’s first outlet in Singapore
Famous French-inspired Korean bakery Tous Les Jours has finally made its way to Singapore!
Launched on December 11, Tous Les Jours Singapore will bring the beloved, handcrafted bakes that the brand is reputed for back home in Korea — including signatures such as the cream cheese walnut bread (S$4.80), peanut crumble bread (S$2.50) and others.
Earlier this week, we got a first look at Tous Les Jours’ first Singapore store and its many treats at Northpoint City right before it opened its doors to the public.
In case you’re wondering, the Northpoint City store carries all the bakes from its Korean counterparts here. And no, there aren’t Singapore-exclusives on its menu.
The backstory
But why is Tous Les Jours’ opening here so widely anticipated?
Frequent travellers to Korea will know that Tous Les Jours is immensely popular there, with its fluffy, freshly baked — and also wallet-friendly — pastries being its claim to fame. Lovingly crafted using classic French techniques, the bakes are weaved with Korean flavours, too.
The bakery didn’t shoot to international acclaim overnight, though — it took time, dedication and patience for Tous Les Jours to perfect its recipes. It was established in Guri City, South Korea, back in 1997 and it has taken more than a decade of hard work for it to get to where it is today.
Today, the brand has more than 1,600 stores across the globe, including the United States, China, Vietnam and now, an outlet in Singapore, as well. We also hear that Tous Les Jous plans to launch more outlets on our shores in the future.
A first look at Tous Les Jous Singapore
You can find Tous Les Jours Singapore situated in the bustling south wing of Northpoint City, right opposite Collin’s — it also happens to be in an area where footfall is the highest.
The store is decked in its signature dark green, with a life-sized poster of iconic Korean star Kim Soo-hyun — the gorgeous male lead in the hit Korean drama Queen of Tears — planted by the entrance to beckon you in.
Kim Soo-hyun is the celebrity ambassador of Tous Les Jours — so you know its bakes are idol-approved! Three tantalising bread creations are inspired by his favourite flavours: Artisan sesame bagel (S$2.90), artisan rice bagel (S$2.90) and artisan salt butter pan bread (S$4.80).
We foresee that these three star-picked varieties (besides its bestsellers) at the Tous Les Jour Singapore store will sell out quickly, so you should head down stat if you’d like to get your hands on a bun or two.
Our favourites on Tous Les Jours Singapore’s menu
Tous Les Jours Singapore’s menu has a vibrant assortment of drool-worthy buns, cakes and pastries for you to get your fill of, but there were a handful that stuck out to us.
First was the K-Hotteok bread (S$2.30), which was a flat pancake-like bun stuffed with a sweet and decadent brown sugar and nut filling.
The bread was deliciously soft and fluffy on the outside, and chock-full of an ooey-gooey brown sugar-and-nut spread that’s surprisingly not cloying at all. The nuts also added a layer of crunch and texture to the loaded bun.
The goguma mammoth bread (S$5.50) is a creamy, multi-layered delight laden with red bean paste, sweet buttercream and juicy sweet potato chunks. Every element just went well together, from the fresh sweet potato bits, to the velvety buttercream and fragrant red bean paste.
And on the outside, holding it all together is a soft, slightly toasted bread with a mild crisp to it — just imagine the different textures and flavours in this bun, which add to its indulgence.
Sticklers for tradition will love the chewy nutty bread (S$4.50) — a chunky, walnut-laden treat intertwined with swirls of sticky rice cake mochi.
A sweet meringue topping is then lightly dusted over the bun for a subtle tinge of sweetness. It’s a simple and light treat — a breakfast staple that goes well with coffee in the morning.
This was an invited tasting.
