Unless you’ve been living under the shio pan rock, you’ve likely heard the news: Viral shio pan brand Shio & Sato has just launched a pop-up cafe at The Centrepoint!

It comes complete with dine-in seats, so you can enjoy its much-coveted, fluffy Japanese salted bread rolls fresh in-store.

Most of us are probably acquainted with the brand already, especially if you’ve savoured Shio & Sato’s bakes before.

It previously hosted pop-ups at Tree Storey at The Star Vista in February, and Tom’s Palette in January — both of which were met with immense popularity.

However, the pop-ups were temporary and ran for only a month.

This time around, Shio & Sato at The Centrepoint occupies a full-fledged, dine-in space of its own. It will also operate for eight to nine months, until the end of December this year or January, 2026 (although subject to change).

Shio & Sato at The Centrepoint occupies a small unit within Gastro+ — one of three food halls in the mall — right next to Japanese restaurant Misato

Besides a dine-in area, it’s also fully equipped with a kitchen — where the culinary team turns out its speciality salted bread rolls from scratch, and fresh from the oven, to boot!

The team is led by MasterChef Singapore S1 finalist Genevieve Lee, who is also behind the uber-popular bomboloni concept Sourbombe Bakery.

So, what’s new at Shio & Sato’s pop-up cafe?

On the menu are 10 drool-worthy flavours: Four sweet and six savoury options.

To wash it all down, you can also enjoy the shio pan rolls with various handcrafted brews — including the likes of coffee and chocolate — that go well with bread.

And yes, matcha drinks are on the menu, too!

Among the savouries, we enjoyed the kombu shio pan (S$4.80), one of the fan-favourite flavours at Shio & Sato. It brims with the fragrance of kombu (kelp seaweed) butter, and is nicely complemented by the crispiness of the salted bread

Another popular flavour that bursts with aromatic oomph is the truffle shio pan (S$4.80), stuffed with a tantalising truffle filling within. It has a gentle umami flavour, and you can taste the buttery notes peeking through the bread.

The green chilli onion shio pan (S$5.50) is one of the bolder, savoury flavours of the lot. It features rich cream cheese spiced with the earthy notes of green onions and the tanginess of chilli — a lovely marriage of different flavours.

Those with a sweet tooth will adore the delicious matcha Hokkaido milk shio pan (S$5.80) that’s chock-full of sweet, luscious matcha cream. Paired together with the shio pan’s crispy shell, it almost reminded us of a cream puff dessert.

The azuki butter shio pan (S$6.50) is another toothsome delight. It sees smooth red bean paste and a slab of fragrant butter, atop a crisp, golden-brown salted bread roll. It’s balanced with the right amount of sweetness, making for a palatable flavour that both the young and old can enjoy.

Matcha fans will rejoice, because matcha takes centre stage on Shio & Sato’s drink menu.

There’s a fizzy yuzu matcha tonic (S$8.50) that will perk you up on a hot day, and the crowd-favourite okumidori matcha latte (S$6.90) that’s made with a ceremonial-grade matcha powder and boasts an earthy and subtly sweet flavour.
