Do you ever feel like you just want to forget all about your food budget and splurge on anything, just like a crazy rich Asian?

There’s no doubt that food is getting more expensive than ever with 9% GST and inflation woes, but hey, we still got to eat — and nothing besides our favourites are going to spark joy the same way

S$100 for the week

And there’s just the thing to make sure you get to indulge in all your favourites in May without fear: Grab’s Crazy Rich Savings sale!

Running for the whole of May, the sale runs the gamut of popular merchants on GrabFood and GrabMart and offers a myriad of buy-one-get-one-free offers, S$2 deals on Tuesdays and up to 40% off!

Here’s the challenge: Grab gave us S$100 to cover our office meals for the week. So I grabbed a colleague and we buckled down for the most indulgent week of food delivery-only lunches.

Just a quick disclaimer that we didn’t include delivery fees in our calculations for the week (which will vary depending on your location and timing).

Find out how we did it!

Day 1

Decadent Burger King is a good way to kickstart a week. Photo: Abdul Rahim Anwar/HungryGoWhere

We start off the week decadently because Mondays are our nemeses and we deserve a treat, so we grab a Burger King’s Crazy one-for-one bundle (S$22, U.P. S$44):

  • 2x spicy Chicken King
  • 2x large cheesy fries
  • 2x banana pie
  • 2x medium coke

As fried chicken fans, there’s nothing more satisfying than kicking off the work week with a crispy fried chicken for lunch? Heck yeah.

Plus, Burger King’s cheesy fries are always one of our favourite guilty pleasures for snacking on throughout the day.

And even better: It’s the perfect meal for quick, fuss-free cleanup before we head back to our desks for the afternoon.

Total damage: S$22

Day 2

The best remedy for those cold rainy days. Photo: Abdul Rahim Anwar/HungryGoWhere

It was a rainy Tuesday and you know what that means? We need some comforting, piping-hot soup to warm us up. And we found the perfect deal: Takagi Ramen has a one-for-one deal on its butashoga shoyu ramen teishoku meal (S$16, U.P. S$32).

You get two bowls of ramen, iced lemon tea and a choice of two sides. We had to get the chicken karaage and takoyaki, because who doesn’t love some fried-food goodness?

Juicy karaage and rich and umami broth — the perfect combination to keep us warm, instead of huddled under jackets.

Total damage so far: S$38

Day 3

Maki-San’s sushi and salad are good for a cleaner meal. Photo: Abdul Rahim Anwar/HungryGoWhere

After a few days of sharing each other’s meals, my colleague and I decided to be a bit more individualistic. We opted for the Maki-San mega sale Mega-san salad & sushi bundle (S$27.40, U.P. S$54.80), which includes:

  • 1x Mega-san salad
  • 1x Mega-san sushi
  • 2x side dishes
  • 2x Coca-Cola drinks

I ordered my go-to, a Mega-san sushi with smoked duck and white Japanese rice. By contrast, she went for a Mega-san salad with cold soba, some truffle mayo, asparagus, cherry tomatoes, and corn. Light but hearty — a good contrast to all that heavy ramen from day two.

Total damage: S$27.40

Total damage so far: S$65.40

Day 4

Salmon belly bowl for just S$9.95! Photo: Abdul Rahim Anwar/HungryGoWhere

If you can’t tell by now, we’re huge fans of Japanese food, so we naturally ordered the mentaiko salmon belly bowl (S$12.90, U.P. S$25.80) from Ishiro since there’s a one-for-one deal.

Just imagine: a slab of luscious salmon belly, slathered in addictive mentaiko for under S$10 per person — you won’t get much better value than that.

Total damage: S$12.90

Total damage so far: S$78.30

Day 5

To end off the long work-week, we decided to get Ok Chicken Rice’s roast chicken & chicken cutlet bundle (S$6.50, U.P. S$13).

With both tender roast chicken and crunchy chicken cutlet at just S$6.50 per meal, it’s also a great meal option before you head off for your work out. You aren’t just getting GrabFood Crazy Rich Savings — you’re getting crazy mad gains without having to spend a ton of money or time buying and prepping chicken breast from the supermarket.

My colleague and I wanted a little bit of each option, so we split the meat portions with each other for a bit of variety — a win-win.

Ice cream is the best for more stressful days. Photo: Abdul Rahim Anwar/HungryGoWhere

And since it’s been a pretty stressful week, we decided to splurge on ice cream.

Why not right? The Ice Cream Store is offering 50% off its Ben & Jerry’s mousse pie ice-cream pints (S$7.50, U.P. S$15). So we snagged two pints for just S$15!

Rich, velvety and chocolatey ice cream is exactly what every stressed writer needs. And there was more than enough for sharing with the rest in the office, too!

Total damage: S$21.50

Total damage after five days: S$99.80

Look at that: The total was a bit under our budget of S$100! Not too bad, considering it was five days of feasting on Japanese goodies, burgers and even ice cream for the two of us.

We did also use some GrabUnlimited vouchers for S$3 off delivery fees wherever we could, for the most savings.

Mission accomplished, I’d say!
