One for the Westies: Snazzy new food court Farm House opens at Dairy Farm Mall
Westies know the pain of staying in the west — often unappreciated and made fun of by Easties for being “ulu”.
But those who know, know that the west side of Singapore has its hidden gems and charms. Now, there’s another new place of interest for Westies: Farm House at Dairy Farm Mall.
Its location is quite interesting — the food court is one of the newer openings at the relatively under-the-radar Dairy Farm Mall, which opened only in 2023 and also features popular bakery Patisserie Cle.
Opened in the first week of July, Farm House is a cosy space that comes with rustic elements, punctuated with wooden accents and featuring a snazzy centre bar.
Designed to become a destination for those staying in the west, the food court features over 200 seats and a diverse range of food options, ranging from sashimi to Indomee.
So, what exactly will you find at Farm House if you decide to head down to Dairy Farm Mall?
Sashimi with youtiao and… kopi?
One of the more interesting stores at Farm House has to be Tokyo Taste, which offers a staggering array of Japanese favourites.
We’re not just talking about the usual teriyaki chicken rice sets and such. Instead, the stall features dishes more often found at proper sit-down Japanese restaurants.
That means rice bowls such as chicken katsu omu curry rice (S$12.80), bara chirashi don (S$17.90) and tempura moriawase tendon (S$14.50). On top of that, you can even get sashimi — including favourites such as salmon belly (S$12.90) and maguro (S$12.90) — too.
If Japanese doesn’t call out to you, there’s also Sui Yuan, which brings the heavy flavours with its motley of Chinese dishes that originate from the mainland.
That includes everything from braised mutton pot (S$32) to the a la mode sauerkraut grilled fish (S$28).
Personally, we recommend the good-value special of golden sea bass with crushed chilli pepper (S$15) — can’t argue against a whole fish for S$15, especially when its flesh is cooked to a perfect softness.
But for those craving more familiar, more local flavours, Farm House also has stalls such as youtiao expert You and seafood specialist KangKar Nang.
For the really hard-hitting comfort food, there’s Indonesian-focused Warung and Dairy Farm Western, which dishes out nostalgic Western grub such as breaded chicken cutlet (S$8.80)
Oh and, of course, there’s the ubiquitous chicken rice (S$5.90) and char siew rice (S$5.90) from Farm Chicken, run by a chef formerly from Shangri-La Hotel.
Rounding off everything is the beverage stall where you can get your kopi fix here from the popular chain KopiFellas with your standard kopi and teh from S$2.10.
But they’ve also brought their quirky earl grey tea series (from S$3.10) and Thai milk tea (S$3.90) to Farm House, along with original creations such as the SG Kopilicious (brown sugar oat milk kopi with coffee jelly, S$7)
If you happen to head down to Farm House and are in need of some unwinding after a hard day, they also have beer bucket deals from S$30, plus cocktails, wines and sakes on top of that — alcoholics would feel at home here.
If you’re living in the west and looking for a new spot to check out — after visiting Hillion Mall and HillV2 a million times — why not check out the new Farm House?
