If you’re looking for a breath of fresh, seaside air with your kids (or furkids), there’s a new hangout spot in the east to check out.

Canopy at Changi Village is one of coastal Changi’s latest additions and the newest restaurant in the Canopy slate of eateries. Canopy is known for its pet-friendly chain of restaurants — usually garden-themed — with three other locations in HortPark, Bishan and Changi City Point.

You can continue to expect the same pet-friendly vibes at its Changi Village outpost, known as Canopy Garden Dining, with the added benefit of the sun and waves just within arm’s reach.

It’s great if you’re chasing that not-in-Singapore high. Just think: Warm sand between your toes, beach club vibes, sweeping waterfront views, and live music.

And it’s spacious too — plenty of open, outdoor space for the kiddos to run around and frolic in the sun, with a shady alfresco dining area for you and the furkids, complete with whirling ceiling fans to stave off the heat.

If you prefer it cool and quiet, there’s also an air-conditioned dining area, too.

Canopy Changi’s menu

Foodwise, the restaurant serves up familiar Western staples — salads, soups, burgers, pastas, and the like — with a few Asian and local delights thrown into the mix.

The kale salad with sweet potato croquettes (S$27) came with a generous shavings of grated cheese and an earthy pesto dressing, though we found the croquettes too soft and lacked a good bite.

We also had the buffalo wings served with spicy dip (S$17), which we found rather mild in heat and made for easy snacking.

There are plenty of mains to choose from, including a selection of brunch items, which are available until 2pm.

For us, the pesto prawn pasta (S$30) was a standout, with fresh tiger prawns and juicy, burst-in-your-mouth cherry tomatoes enrobed in creamy homemade pesto.

Local flavours get their turn in the limelight here with Canopy’s spicy sambal baked salmon (S$28) and cendol & banana fritters (S$16) dessert. We particularly enjoyed the latter, although the lightly battered pieces of fried banana didn’t quite hold its shape and proved a bit of a challenge to consume gracefully.

This was a hosted tasting.
