Matcha is the go-to drink for the season, in case you haven’t noticed. You can’t scroll past more than five social media posts without seeing at least one with someone raving about their go-to joints for matcha drinks in Singapore

As matcha lovers ourselves, we thought it’d be fun to jump on the matcha-loving bandwagon and share a guide to our favourite matcha gems around, too. (Don’t come for us if it isn’t your fave, though, everyone has their preferences!)

I’m one who prefers my matcha beverages on the sweeter end, tinged with the earthy, floral notes synonymous with quality matcha. Better still, if they also come in an array of intriguing flavours!

If you’re a matcha twin who shares similar tastes, then read on ahead for our list of 10 spots with delectable matcha drinks in Singapore:

1. Cornershop

50A Marine Terrace Market, 01-289, Block 50A Marine Terrace
Open: Wednesday to Sunday (10am to 2pm)

If you’re looking for a hidden matcha gem, Cornershop at Marine Terrace would be right up your alley. Helmed by a young girl boss single-handedly, the shop is a relatively new joint located in a busy hawker.

The owner, Val, handcrafts all her brews from scratch, with plenty of love. She started Cornershop with the idea of wanting it to be a quaint pitstop — away from the bustle of the city — for patrons to refuel with a cuppa.

The shop has a variety of drinks that will appeal to all ages. There’s the beloved iced strawberry matcha latte (S$7), and iced mango matcha latte (S$7), among various others. There’s also a surprise matcha flavour available each week.

You can also read our review of the place here.

2. Kyo Kohee

112 Robinson, 01-01, 112 Robinson Road
Open: Monday to Friday (8am to 5pm)

Asia Square Tower 1, 01-K1, 8 Marina View
Open: Monday to Friday (8am to 5pm)

Those working in the Central Business District (CBD) would have likely heard of Kyo Kohee, one of the must-go spots for matcha drinks in the area.

It has two outlets: A full-fledged cafe at 112 Robinson, and a coffee kiosk at Asia Square Tower 1. It’s not uncommon to spot long lines of office workers waiting to order a midday pick-me-up, at lunch hour.

Kyo Kohee strives towards creating a thoughtful experience for its customers, taking great pride in its brews, made with premium matcha powder sourced from various regions in Japan

Matcha is an art form here, and each sip promises flavour — especially in the ceremonial-grade kanayamidori (from S$8.90) and okumidori (from S$6.90) matcha. You can enjoy them as is, or in latte form, depending on your preference.

3. Hellu Coffee

Far East Square, 01-05, 137 Amoy Street
Open: Monday to Thursday (8am to 5pm), Friday (8am to 4pm) and Saturday (10am to 4pm)

One of the most talked-about places for tantalising matcha drinks in Singapore is Hellu Coffee, a rustic-looking spot at Far East Square. It’s a small space, but it doesn’t stop the crowds from thronging the cafe for its delicious drinks.

The matcha drinks here are incredibly picture-perfect, and come topped with a delightfully fluffy cream topping. The sweet, silky cream is an added bonus for those who love their matcha drinks embellished with a touch of sweetness.

For a blend of both bold caffeine notes and matcha, get the Dirty Creamu (S$9.50), which has a delicious shot of espresso. If you prefer a refreshing quencher, get the matcha tonic (S$7). There’re also savoury, buttery croffles on the menu if you’d like something to have your drinks with.

4. No Strangers Here

39 Sultan Gate
Open: Tuesday to Sunday (12pm to 8pm)

Don’t be a stranger, and check out No Strangers Here at Kampong Glam for some good-looking matcha drinks. You can easily spot this homey spot from afar, with its vibrant, royal-blue awning.

The cafe’s ethos is meaningful and poignant: Those who come in as strangers, leave as friends. Those behind No Strangers Here want to bring the community together through coffee, and have created the cafe as a welcoming space for coffee aficionados to seek respite.

While caffeinated beverages take up the bulk of its menu, the picturesque matcha series is what we’d recommend for matcha lovers. There are four options, all of which come in interesting flavour pairings (S$7 each): Blue matcha (coconut water with butterfly pea flower), Charcoal matcha (black sesame), coconut & matcha, and strawberry & matcha.

5. Pacto by Parchmen

Jalan Besar Community Club, 01-05, 69 Jellicoe Road
Open: Monday, Wednesday to Friday (8:30am to 4:30pm), Saturday and Sunday (9am to 5pm)

Kada Maxwell, 01-10, 5 Kadayanallur Street
Open: Monday, Wednesday to Friday (8:30am to 4:30pm), Saturday and Sunday (9am to 5pm)

One of our newest favourite places for matcha drinks in Singapore is Pacto by Parchmen. A local coffee and tea brand, Pacto currently has two outlets — its first at Lavender, and the second at newly opened Kada Maxwell.

The latter is what has got cafe-hoppers talking recently. Besides being housed in a very quaint, small space, it also has a unique roadside takeaway window which is not only incredibly cute but also quite the photo opportunity.

Take your pick of speciality coffees, historical teas and chocolate-based drinks here. We enjoyed the coconut matcha “Cloudy” (S$6), made with coconut water and matcha cold foam, as well as the aromatic matcha espresso “Muddy” (S$7).

6. Echo House

Kada Maxwell, 01-08, 5 Kadayanallur Street
Open: Monday to Friday (8.30am to 6pm), Saturday and Sunday (9.30am to 5pm)

While you’re at Kada, another place you can drop by for matcha drinks is Echo House, a charming new joint brimming with the fragrance of coffee and bakes. Decked in minimalistic hues of beige and white, every corner of this small, but buzzy cafe makes for a ’gram-worthy photo.

The matcha drinks at Echo House are so well-loved, they run out of stock relatively early in the day at times. We get why, though — they’re absolutely gorgeous! The go-to order among customers is the iced strawberry matcha (S$8.50), which is a fruity, pink-tinged indulgence

If you like robust drinks, we’d recommend the matcha latte (from S$6.50), crafted with ceremonial-grade matcha powder. You can also opt to spike it with caffeine at an additional S$1.

7. Cheeky Cuppas

24 Sin Ming Road, 01-47A
Open: Tuesday to Friday (7.15am to 4.30pm), Saturday and Sunday (9am to 5pm)

Cheeky Cuppas is an up-and-coming new hideout for matcha drinks in Singapore! Nestled underneath a HDB block in Sin Ming, the takeaway kiosk is just a short six-minute walk from Upper Thomson MRT. The shop might be simple, but its wooden furnishings exude a rustic and homely feel that makes us feel right at home.

Despite its small size, the menu here is expansive, featuring coffees, spanners, sammies as well as a small selection of bakes, which vary daily.

If you’re gunning for tea-based brews, the mukashi matcha latte (from S$7.50) is a must-try with its rich and creamy body. You’re also likely to fall in love with the luscious Chaspanner (from S$9), which features velvety housemade cream atop a matcha latte.

8. Kurasu

Waterloo Centre, 01-24, 261 Waterloo Street
Open: Monday to Sunday (10am to 6pm)

Orchard Building, 01-03, 1 Grange Road
Open: Monday to Friday (8.30am to 4.30pm), Saturday and Sunday (9.30am to 5.30pm)

Savour Japanese speciality brews at Kurasu, an artisanal coffee brand founded by passionate Japanese-born owner Yozo Otsuki, who wanted a way to best showcase Kyoto’s coffee culture.

Originally an online Japanese homeware store in Australia, Kurasu shifted its business model to coffee-making after Yozo noticed a bulk of his sales going to Japanese coffee wares. Being the coffee-lover that he was, he decided to pivot and specialise in coffee-making, instead.

Kurasu now boasts outlets across various parts of the world, including Singapore, where it is now a well-loved brand, reputed for its handcrafted brews. Try its signature matcha latte (from S$7), a creamy, fragrant drink perfumed with earthy hues.

9. 2050 Coffee

267 Beach Road
Open: Monday to Sunday (8.30am to 7.30pm)

Ever had matcha on tap? Well, now’s your chance to do so, at the newly opened Singapore outpost of the Kyoto-famous coffee brand 2050 Coffee. Located at Beach Road, 2050 Coffee’s outlet is the brand’s second-ever branch in the world, and here you’ll find matcha dispensed via automated taps.

2050 Coffee was opened by the founder of Kurasu — and while Kurasu takes on a minimalistic approach, this outfit is more industrial and futuristic-looking at the same time, almost resembling a space station.

While there are a slew of coffee drinks on the menu, the iced matcha latte (S$7.50) is one of its undisputed highlights. 2050’s is similar to Kurasu’s version — delicately balanced with a touch of sweetness, just served in a more intriguing manner.

Here’s how our experience at 2050 Coffee went.

10. Calligraph Coffee

Duo Galleria, 01-57, 7 Fraser Street
Open: Monday to Friday (7.30am to 5pm), Saturday and Sunday (9am to 6pm)

Last on our list of gems for matcha drinks in Singapore is Calligraph Coffee, located conveniently at Duo Galleria in the Bugis area. It’s a speciality coffee and matcha bar that utilises only the finest ingredients, so that customers are treated to the highest quality.

Decked out in shades of white and in a minimalist aesthetic, Calligraph Coffee is a quiet spot, serving up brews that are just as refined as its interior.

The menu here is extensive and you may find yourself spoilt for choice. Sweet-toothed tea lovers will love the matcha einspanner (S$8.90), while those who gravitate towards nuttier, roasted flavours can opt for the Hanabi matcha latte (from S$8.20) with notes of pistachio, or nori matcha latte with seaweed (S$10.90).
