It’s just been slightly over two months since the announcement of Asia’s 50 Best list in March but something even bigger has already dropped: The 2024 edition of World’s 50 Best Restaurants.

If you’re unaware, the World’s 50 Best Restaurants is a yearly affair where the best restaurants all over the globe are celebrated for their contributions to the culinary space.

As is tradition, the award ceremony is usually hosted gala-style, with folks from the F&B industry invited for a live unveiling of the 50 best restaurants in the world

The World’s 50 Best Restaurants for 2024 have been announced on June 6, in Las Vegas. Nos. 51 to 100 were first announced on May 23.

The moment of truth: How many Singapore restaurants are in The World’s 50 Best Restaurants in 2024?

Returning to the list is Odette, which comes in at No. 24 as the only entry in the top 50 from the Lion City.

In 2023, it was also the only Singapore restaurant listed on the World’s 50 Best list. Since it also came in 14th place that year, was also named the best restaurant in Asia.

Odette, which also has three Michelin stars, is helmed by chef Julien Royer and lauded for its artistry and in crafting some of the most exquisite modern French cuisine in Singapore

By contrast, the top spot for Asia goes to eponymous Gaggan on the World’s 50 Best Restaurants list in 2024.

The Bangkok-based concept, which came in at No. 9 on the list, is opened by seminal restaurateur Gaggan Anand, who is also behind Tanjong Pagar Indian-Mexican restaurant Ms. Maria & Mr. Singh.

Three other Bangkok-based restaurants made it to the list: Suhring at No. 22, Sorn at No. 38 and Le Du at No. 40.

Though there might only be one Singapore entrant among the top 50, three Singapore restaurants made it to Nos. 51 to 100 or the World’s 50 Best Restaurants, which was released in May.

Those who pay attention to the dining scene would be familiar with these three Michelin-starred stalwarts, all of which are noted for their exceptional approach to fine cuisine:

95. Meta

92. Labyrinth

68. Burnt Ends

Coming in at No. 95, Meta is best known as one of the trailblazers bringing exquisite modern Korean cuisine to the forefront of Singapore’s ever-evolving restaurant space.

Meanwhile, No. 92 Labyrinth and its chef LG Han interpret nostalgic local flavours through an innovative, contemporary lens and elevate them to fit a fine-dining context.

Rounding out the Singapore representation on this year’s World’s 50 Best 51 to 100 list is Burnt Ends at No. 68 — a modern-Australian smokehouse lauded for its bold, smoky barbecue-style of cooking that has captured the hearts of many.

With the inclusion of these three restaurants, we can’t wait to see what else the World’s 50 Best Restaurants award will bring for 2024.

Will more Singapore restaurants make the cut? Will we see a repeat of 2023 when Singapore claimed the top spot in Asia? Look forward to the announcement on June 3!
