Sushiro Digiro at Mandai: First outlet in SEA with a digital conveyor belt system and it’s adorable!

A big part of the charm of eating at conveyor belt sushi chains such as Sushiro is letting fate decide what you’d be eating as you wait for passing items on the conveyor belt to catch your eye.
But what if we told you there’s an outlet in Singapore where sushi doesn’t go round the belt? Well, not physically anyway.
Meet Digiro, Sushiro’s virtual conveyor belt concept.
Sushiro’s spanking new Mandai Wildlife Reserve outlet is the first outlet in Southeast Asia using the “Digiro” (short for Digital Sushiro Vision) technology.
Mostly digital, totally adorable

This doesn’t mean no conveyor belt at all, though — there’s still one to serve you your dishes, but the selection is all digital.
With the Digiro setup at Sushiro’s Mandai Wildlife Reserve outlet, you get a screen in place of a physical conveyor, constantly scrolling through the various items on the menu.

It’s nothing complicated: You can just tap on the scrolling items on the virtual “conveyor” and place your order through the usual digital order system.
Your orders then get delivered to you on the brand’s efficient express auto-waiter, which normally sits on top of the perpetually spinning conveyor belt.
(P.S. You can read all about how Sushiro works behind the scenes, including how its auto-waiter works, in our article.)

Unlike what you may see in a regular Sushiro outlet, the express waiter system at Digiro is located closer to the diner, taking the place of the regular Sushiro conveyor belts, beneath a large digital screen.
Besides its efficiency and better hygiene, the system is remarkably adorable, too.

You get to choose between two aesthetics: A more standard “classic” skin and a “Dakkosushi“ skin that’s filled with Sushiro’s adorable mascots, which are animals shaped like sushi.
That means the kids will also enjoy the experience just as much, or if not even more than the adult diners!

On top of that, a “Dakkosushi“ game mode will also be triggered when guests meet a certain number of orders.
Diners will not only be able to view an animated sequence that features the cute mascots, but they also stand a chance to win cute collectible prizes!
Travel the world with Sushiro

Besides the quirky Digiro system, Sushiro’s Mandai Wildlife outlet launch also coincides with the recent unveiling of the “Travel the World with Sushiro” seasonal specials, available from now till July 1.
With this limited-time special menu, diners can look out for a variety of interesting creations that were created in Sushiro locations all over the world.

For example, Singapore cuisine is represented in the “Travel the World with Sushiro” menu, with items doused in an indulgent cereal sauce.
You can expect dishes such as the shrimp tempura with cereal sauce (S$3.90) and soft shell crab with cereal sauce (S$5.20), which features a light and crunchy soft shell crab!
With a nice crunch and the familiar fragrance of cereal sauce — which Singaporean can resist?

If you’re looking for fun flavours, the Korean section probably has the most interesting items amongst all the countries featured on the menu.
Sushiro features some veritably Korean ingredients such as kimchi in the flounder with water kimchi (S$4.90), and even recreates K-BBQ in a bite with the king mushroom oyster with galbi (S$3.90) that features a slice of grilled beef short ribs.

The most interesting one, though, has to be the chogochujang kaizen with perilla wrap (S$2.90) that features a large sheet of perilla, rice and an assortment of chopped-up seafood drenched in spicy red pepper sauce.
Other localities featured in the “Travel the World with Sushiro” menu include Taiwan, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Hong Kong, and China.
Those who love their desserts, there’s three in this series with the most refreshing dessert being the mango shaved iced with soft serve (S$8.50) from Taiwan.

Tart shaved iced, creamy soft serve, and popping boba makes this the perfect dessert for a hot afternoon at the zoo.
If there are any tea lovers, you can also check out Sushiro’s Hong Kong rich milk tea catalana (S$2.90) — this one is very tea forward and fragrant with a nice dense, mousse-like texture.
Non-tea fans might find it a bit too overpowering though.
Sushiro Mandai’s opening promos

Besides the new limited-time special and the Digiro system, these opening promos are another good reason to visit: Guests will be able to indulge in a whole slew of selected daily specials priced at S$1.90 ranging from bluefin fatty tuna to jumbo scallop — talk about value!
