New pasta bar Scarpetta opens at Amoy Street, serving free pasta this weekend
If there’s one carb Singaporeans can’t seem to tire of, it has to be pasta. Pasta bars continue to pop up everywhere and the newest one, Scarpetta at Amoy Street, will probably turn some heads with its opening promo.
It’s offering free pasta for the first 100 customers from Feb 7 to 9, at both lunch and dinner (except for Feb 8 dinner, where it’s closed for a private event)!
No, not limited to the first 100 customers for the day, but the first 100 for each service — so you don’t have to limit yourself to heading down for lunch!
Do note that Scarpetta’s free pasta is only available on a walk-in basis and limited to one serving per guest only. But you’ll get your choice of any pasta on the menu.
This new opening takes over the 47 Amoy Street space formerly occupied by Indian-Korean outfit Tambi and it’s hard to miss with the striking pop of yellow on its facade.
Inside, it’s a cosy and casual open-space concept where you can watch the chefs in action — perhaps your next date-night idea?
Affordable pasta
Italian food aficionados should know how exorbitant prices can be in Singapore, but Scarpetta offers more affordable pasta options.
Pasta prices start from S$17 and nothing is above S$30. That’s pretty reasonable for an area like Telok Ayer, all things considered.
As with most pasta bars nowadays, Scarpetta offers the popular cacio e pepe on its menu — but with a twist.
It’s not quite authentic, but the cacio e pepe with crispy guanciale (S$20) has all the potent peppery and cheesy sharpness you’d want from the classic, except jazzed up with satisfying crackles in between bites.
Those who prefer more chilli spice than pepper can also consider getting the spicy alla vodka (S$21) for more oomph.
If you’re craving something with a bit more protein and heft to it, Scarpetta also offers a bolognese ravioli (S$24), which contains soft, juicy beef cheek as the filling.
Besides pasta, there are also an array of hearty sides and starters, including burrata (S$16) served with pesto and a radicchio salad (S$14) doused in truffle vinaigrette.
For something bite sized, Scarpetta also offers Tuscan schiacciata toasts with options ranging from auction-grade uni (market price) to stracciatella (S$12) with truffle honey.
Nothing on the menu is too elaborate, but it’s homely, comforting and, most importantly, reasonably priced — as pasta should be.
Oh, and Aperol spritz drinks are going for just S$12 a pop, for those who need a cheeky beverage to wind down after a hard day at the office.
It’s probably worth checking out for anyone hunting down more affordable pasta options — or you could swing by over the opening weekend and maybe snag some free pasta?
