Love tom yum? Thai instant noodle brand Mama pops up at Hue restaurant, runs until Jan 14, 2024
Instant noodles are an instant crowd-pleaser. No matter if it’s Maggi, Indomie or Shin Ramyun, it’ll make Singaporeans involuntarily salivate.
For those whose choice of noods is Mama, the famous Thai brand, add this to your checklists: Mama and Hue Restaurant will be collaborating for a month-long pop-up!
For those who are unfamiliar, Hue Restaurant is a vibey date-spot located in the bustling Bendemeer food enclave and is known for its creative modern interpretations of Thai flavours, making it an apt choice for the pop-up.
Running from today, Dec 12, until Jan 14, Mama x Hue will be the first-ever Asia pop up held by the iconic Thai brand.
Not only will the menu be tweaked to feature more instant noodle goodness, even the space has been given a makeover — it’s now whimsically embellished with cutesy themed cushions, benches and other trinkets.
The Mama x Hue menu will comprise a total of five mains and two starters, each specially crafted using Mama’s signature noodles, as well as the springier OK Oriental Kitchen instant noodle series from the same brand.
Two soupy indulgences can be found in the mains selection, including the ultra-classic Mama tom yum (S$22), served with creamy tom yum soup and spruced up with a glut of ingredients, including tiger prawns, minced pork balls and runny yolks.
The other soup-based main dish comes in the form of Mama beef (S$22), where OK Oriental Kitchen noodles are soaked in a rich, herb-laden beef broth and finished with chargrilled grass-fed Angus ribeye.
If soup isn’t your go-to style for noodle dishes, Mama x Hue also provides classic stir-fried twists.
These include the Mama dried suki (S$15), fried in the popular spicy Thai dipping sauce, and Mama crispy pork basil (S$18), mixed in with crispy pork belly and perfumed with the earthy aroma of kra pow (holy basil).
There’s also the more luxe Mama soft-shell prawn truffle noodles (S$22) that is stir-fried in a decadent base of truffle sauce and prawn stock, then adorned with Japanese prawn roe and deep-fried soft-shell prawns.
Beyond the mains, there are also two salad-based starters on the Mama x Hue menu to complement the hefty noodle dishes.
One is the Mama lup cheong (S$15) that mixes up Chinese dried sausage, hot dogs and minced pork with celery, red chilli and cherry tomatoes.
The other is a Mama meatball larb (S$13) loaded with pork balls, sticky rice pops and an assortment of herbs such as coriander and mint.
