What’s your take — should pineapples be on or off pizza?

At Dough It Yourself, it’s all about making your pizza and pasta exactly how you want it.

Pineapple on pizza? Go for it. Prefer to keep it classic? That’s cool, too.

Located along the ever-lively Joo Chiat Road, Dough It Yourself breaks from the typical Italian mould with a playful, do-it-yourself experience across its pizza, pasta, salad bars, and even potato gratin.

The 90-minute buffet is priced at S$32 for weekday lunch, S$34 for weekday dinner and weekend lunch, and S$39 for weekend dinner. Meanwhile, children aged four to 12 can dine for S$15 and kids under three eat for free.

Head to the back of the restaurant and that’s where the real fun begins.

Kick things off with your favourite carb — hand-stretched pizza dough, farfalle, rigatoni, or good ol’ potatoes. It’s totally up to you!

Then dress it with your choice of sauce: Tomato, cream, pesto, and red pesto.

Next, move over to the veggie station for the usual suspects — lettuce, bell peppers, sun-dried tomatoes, olives, mushrooms, and more.

You get to bulk up to your heart’s content with a solid spread of proteins, too, such as chicken breast, smoked duck, turkey ham, garlic shrimp, and beef pepperoni.

The finishing touch? Don’t hold back on the mozzarella and cheddar cheese before handing it over to the staff for some time in the oven.

Then sit back and relax! The staff will deliver your creation right to your table once ready.

The pizza arrived handily sliced into four quarters, making it easy to share in a group.

The crust had a nice crunch, though our enthusiasm with the tomato sauce left the base a little soggy — so remember to go easy on the ladle.

But, the gooey, melty cheese redeemed the dish with its satisfying pull. Coupled with the plump prawns and smoked duck meat, it’s a safe, comforting combination that you can’t go wrong with.

Of course, we had to build a bowl of farfalle, too — with dollops of cream sauce, some green pesto, and toppings such as chicken breast, sausage, and mushrooms.

The pasta was nicely al dente, but we felt the dish fell a little flat — the cheese pull didn’t quite satisfy, and the cream sauce dried out during the cooking process.

We did notice that the ingredients were left out without a cover, even when there weren’t any diners around.

Nonetheless, we left Dough It Yourself with a little food baby — a side effect of all the fun (and food) we indulged in.

It ended up being a unique, hands-on activity with its DIY pizza and pasta service, which is why it’ll probably be a hit with kids, and nostalgic fun for adults, too!

While the food isn’t on the same tier as Tokyo’s famous Pizza Studio Tamaki and Vincenzo Capuano Singapore, its reasonable pricing makes up for it, especially if you’re planning to enjoy multiple servings!
