Love pizza and want to try something unique and exciting? Well, have you ever tried satay on pizza before?

Because the newest creation from Domino’s Pizza might just be something that will dazzle your tastebuds: It’s the new sate pizza!

Recently released on Apr 2, Domino’s new sate pizza comes in both beef and chicken versions for lovers of both chicken and beef satay.

Pizza with a nostalgic twist

It can be hard to get the balance right, when injecting a local twist into pizza, but when it works, it works fabulously.

Plus, rich and smoky meat combined with fragrant satay sauce? Definitely sounds like it would make a shiok pizza.

So what goes into Domino’s sate pizzas?

Each pizza is spread with a buttery and chunky satay sauce, loaded with juicy morsels of chicken or beef and topped with a motley of Japanese cucumbers, red onions, red pickled chili, and mozzarella cheese.

There’s the juicy meat, cucumber and onions to cut through the richness and, most importantly, the buttery and chunky satay sauce that gives it that unmistakable oomph — basically everything you need for a satisfying satay!

P.S. To those who really love cheese: You can also enjoy the beef and chicken sate pizzas with Domino’s Cheese Volcano — complete with liquid cheese dip — that was launched in January!

Our taste test

Of course, as pizza lovers, we had to dive into the sate pizzas ourselves to see how Domino’s fared.

On first bite, you get hit with the smoky and spice-laden profile of the meats, before acidity from the onions follows suit, with the cucumbers adding a nice, refreshing touch to round it off.

The meats were also juicy and chunky — very much reminiscent of actual satay texture — as was the enjoyable crunchiness from the cucumbers and onions.

At the same time, the sate pizza’s sauce also layers over the meat, imbuing a nutty and fragrant punch that’s equal parts nostalgic and shiok.

The spice comes in a bit after a few bites, but it’s a nice sizzle and not too overwhelming — manageable even for the less spice-tolerant!

If we had to choose between the two, we preferred the beef for its fuller and more robust flavours.

Overall, we thought the sate pizzas very elegantly transplanted elements of satay onto a pizza-dough base.

It’s a well made local-fusion pizza that we can see satay lovers enjoying, especially if they are looking to switch things up a bit.

Not to mention the hearty flavours — we bet it would be a hit at gatherings where you just want to let loose and indulge in the most decadent grub!

If you want to give it a try, Domino’s pizzas are available at 50% off for one large pizza at S$16.95 (U.P. S$33.90). You can top-up S$3 and S$5 respectively to get the chicken sate pizza (S$19.95) and beef sate pizza (S$S$21.95).
