Acai bowls, move over. There’s a new dessert in town that has caught our fancy: Chia seed pudding.
Similar to the decadent, fruit-topped acai bowls that sweet-toothed foodies are familiar with, chia seed puddings are also superfood-laden treats packed with fruits, granola and butter.
The only difference between the two? The dessert base.
Instead of a frozen acai blend, chia seed puddings see a creamy, luscious mixture typically comprising chia seeds and milk.

Compared to acai bowls, though, there isn’t a large following for chia seed puddings just yet.
Chia Puddies — Singapore’s first chia seed pudding speciality store — is hoping to change that! Opened on January 22, it’s an all-new dessert concept at Clarke Quay Central.
It’s also founded by a young, cheery couple, Megan Lim and Ashraf Karim, both of whom wanted to make chia seed pudding bowls more mainstream.

So, how did the quirky name “Chia Puddies” come about?
Megan says it’s an adorable play on the words “chia puddings” — the brand’s speciality.
There are six chia seed pudding varieties on Chia Puddies Singapore’s menu, including a vegan bowl and a matcha-based option. If you’re hankering for flavours such as chocolate or coconut, there are those, too!
The dessert bowls come in three different sizes: Small (S$10.50), medium (S$12.50) and large (S$16). For their prices, you’re getting your money’s worth in portions — the small is more than plenty to share between two.

We knew from the get-go that we wanted to try the choco chia bowl.
It features an indulgent chocolate chia seed pudding as the base, and is laden with yoghurt and fresh banana slices.
The dessert is also generously sprinkled with crunchy granola and cacao bits, which give it a nice contrast against the creaminess of the chocolate pudding and velvety cookie butter.

The Glory bowl is one of the best-sellers at Chia Puddies — a refreshing coconut-themed dessert brimming with piquant floral nuances.
Adorned with fragrant coconut shavings, as well as mango and strawberry chunks, it’s light and fruity — we reckon you can have this for brunch as the perfect midday indulgence!

The matcha bowl caught our eye, too. We’re huge matcha lovers, so we simply had to try this.
While delicious, we’d appreciate a bolder matcha flavour in this one. Although we could still taste the gentle, earthy matcha notes peeking through, it was slightly overpowered by the tartness of the yoghurt.

If you’re too full to savour a chia seed pudding bowl all on its own, you can opt for Chia Puddies’ smoothies (S$9.80 each).
There are six different flavours, with highlights such as The Breakfast smoothie — a yummy combination of banana and blueberries in a hearty chia seed blend — and classic Berry Bliss smoothie.
You can also customise your drinks with extra toppings (fruits, honey, cookie butter — you name it) with a top-up of S$2 each.
