Seen Shanghai’s viral Black Tree online? It opens in Singapore at 313 Somerset tomorrow
Black Tree, a Shanghai beverage brand that has gone viral on social media, is now in Singapore.
If you’re a frequent doomscroller, you’ve probably seen how Gen Z users are going feral over its Rednote-worthy stores in major Chinese cities such as Shanghai and Chongqing.
Good news if you’re part of the crowd: Black Tree’s first Singapore outlet at 313 Somerset will officially open to the public tomorrow (July 29).
The outlet is located in the open-air area, right beside Mexican restaurant Chimi’s, and features a black steel “tree” fixture as the centrepiece.
Not only can you grab a cup to sip on while you shop, but there are also seats for those who want a photogenic spot to rest their legs!

What can aspiring Rednote baddies expect at Black Tree Singapore?
Firstly, Black Tree is best known for its Thai milk tea. Secondly, it will also be bringing drinks from another Shanghai hotspot, Matcha Wang!
Most importantly, some of the drinks are incredibly adorable and perfect for feeding your feeds.
If it’s Thai milk tea you’re feeling, either the Milky Cat cheese Thai tea (S$6.90) or 400 Times cheese milk Thai tea (S$6.90) will scratch the itch.
The former comes with a kawaii (cute) cat-shaped 3D cream topping, and features cheese yoghurt, coconut jelly, and water chestnut popping boba.
This was probably our favourite from the Black Tree Singapore menu: We loved the fun mix of textures from the toppings — the water chestnut popping boba was the star!
For a richer drink, Black Tree’s signature 400 Times cheese milk Thai tea will be the easy choice.
It’s a drink that comes crowned with a glorious cheese foam that has been whipped 400 times to achieve a plusher texture.
Hop onto Rednote and you’ll see that this appears frequently in social media posts about Black Tree!
Matcha girlies can also snag a cup of the Lily Lamb matcha (S$7.90) — this isn’t a Black Tree signature, per se, but a limited seasonal drink brought in from Matcha Wang, which is also from Shanghai.
The selling point for Matcha Wang’s popular concoction is obviously the matcha cheese foam, which is daintily decorated with little sheep!
This drink comes in two different variations: No. 1 with vanilla bean seeds and speciality milk, or No. 2 with King Jasmine tea.
If you’re not too fixated on the cute presentation, Black Tree’s Singapore menu also offers other matcha Cloud items, including matcha cheese Cloud jasmine tea (S$6.90) and matcha cheese Cloud bamboo oolong tea (S$6.90).
Besides matcha and Thai milk tea, Black Tree Singapore’s menu also has other drinks, including the apple pomelo special Qilan oolong tea (S$6.90) and Sicilian lemon white guava juice (S$4.90).
Three gelato flavours will also be available from S$6.90 for a cup and S$7.50 for a single-scoop cone — classic Thai tea, matcha, and ambarella sorbet, which is made with a tangy tropical fruit more commonly known as buah long long in Singapore!
Opening promos including one-for-one deals
To further fuel your FOMO (fear of missing out), Black Tree Singapore will be offering opening promos.
From July 29 to August 6, guests can enjoy 12% off the entire menu!
Customers who purchase the Black Tree x Matcha Wang collaboration set, and post it on social media with a designated hashtag, can adopt one of 2,000 cute Lily Lamb plushies!
There will be a slew of other opening promos lined up till mid-August:
- August 7 to 9: Buy one drink, get one free
- August 10 to 13: 50% off the second item
- August 14 to 16: Buy any two drinks, and you can top up S$2.99 for an exclusive Black Tree Dupont paper bag (limited to 500 redemptions).
Do note that the promos from August 7 to 13 will exclude selected items, including the Lily Lamb matcha drinks and the Milky Cat cheese Thai tea.
