Beloved burnt cheesecake brand Queic by Olivia opens at Jewel Changi with Dubai chocolate outlet-exclusive

Dessert lovers who were around for the start of the burnt cheesecake craze in Singapore would undoubtedly remember Queic by Olivia’s famous rendition of the dessert.
More precisely, they would probably recall when well-known Spanish restaurant Olivia Restaurant & Lounge went viral for its gooey cheesecakes.

The dessert became so popular that Olivia Restaurant & Lounge eventually opened sibling concept Queic (pronounced like “cake”) in 2021, focusing entirely on burnt cheesecakes.
Queic’s first outlet was located at Kreta Ayer, just a few minutes away from the restaurant at Keong Saik.

In these few years, the brand also expanded to a second outlet at the basement of Orchard’s Scott Square.
Here’s some great news for cheesecake aficionados in the east: Queic has just opened a third outlet at Jewel Changi!
Queic’s Dubai chocolate cheesecake

If you haven’t tried Queic’s cheesecakes before, the menu is actually quite extensive.
There isn’t just one or two flavours — it has a myriad of flavours ranging from the classic Basque burnt (S$12) to New York (S$13), and even different cheese-flavoured ones such as brie (S$16.40) and stilton (S$16.40)
However, if there’s a reason to visit Queic’s Jewel Changi outlet over the others, it’s for the outlet-exclusive Dubai chocolate cheesecake (S$24.50).

This one is inspired by the kunafa-style Dubai chocolate that went hotly viral on social media a while back and features ground pistachios, a crunchy pistachio paste, chocolate cheesecake filling, and a chocolate crust.
You get more of the dark chocolate’s intensity and acidity, while the pistachio and crust add a nice bit of textural contrast against the creamy cheesecake filling.
That said, the chocolate can be a bit too rich and the pistachio’s fragrance and nuttiness gets lost in the mix — but it’s also overall not too sweet, which is a win in our books.

But, as any Queic fan would tell you, the must-order item here is undoubtedly Olivia’s Signature (from S$16.40), the creation that put Olivia on the cheesecake map.
This is made with a mix of blue and cream cheeses and served over a crumbly almond sable base, and it’s extremely creamy and gooey.
Every bite coats the mouth in velvety cheese and the cheese is umami, fragrant, and gently smoky, while carrying a touch of sweetness to balance out the savouriness.
Most importantly, the sable base adds a nice buttery heft, so it doesn’t feel too overwhelmingly cheesy.
Cheese toasties

While cheesecakes are Queic’s bread and butter, they do also have bread and cheese on the menu — there’s a trio of grilled cheese sandwiches available, if you need a heartier, savoury bite.
These are the Olivia’s Signature (S$11), tomato & basil ($13) and truffle & pastrami (S$14).
For those who enjoy caramelised onions, Olivia’s Signature is your best bet: It comes with a glut of caramelised onions, topped with mozzarella, emmental, mustard and blue cheese.
The toast is gratifyingly crunchy, while the cheese richness is deftly balanced against the acidity of the caramelised onions and mustard.

Though some might like to argue that sandwiches should have meat in them, then the truffle & pastrami is made for them.
This one features slices of tender beef pastrami and a mellow truffle paste that adds just enough of that earthy aroma to the fray. Very rich and hearty.
We all know how much Singaporeans love to visit Jewel Changi and, if you ever find yourself there for a date or a friend hangout, maybe it’s a good idea to pop by Queic for a sweet treat to wrap up the day?
