Pretty Good Muffins: The viral bakery serving up all kinds of muffins

If you’ve spent any time scrolling through TikTok or Instagram lately, there’s a good chance you’ve seen Pretty Good Muffins pop up on your feed.
This bakery has gone viral more than once — at first for its generously sized, photogenic muffins, and more recently, for its banana pudding matcha drink — a creamy, timely creation that rode on Singapore’s matcha fever.

It’s a small takeaway store you might walk past, if not for the steady stream of long queues, especially during the lunch crowd. We suggest heading down early if you want first dibs on the day’s bakes.

If you arrive early enough, you’ll be greeted by the bakery’s gleaming glass display case in all its glory — stocked with a colourful array of muffins. The wide variety definitely sets this bakery apart from others.
Whether you’re all about the classics such as double chocolate chip, or more adventurous flavours such as earl grey, there’s bound to be something for you.

Peek behind the counter and it’s a well-oiled kitchen team working quickly to turn out tray after tray of warm, freshly baked muffins. It usually sells out by mid-afternoon. On the weekends, it may sell out even earlier.
Here’s the kicker: These muffins are incredibly affordable. Prices start from just S$1.40 — a rare find, when you might be charged double the price for half its size at a cafe.
Classic flavours

Among the classics, the banana walnut (S$1.90) muffin with a vanilla base stood out as a clear favourite. The natural sweetness of the banana was a good counterpoint against the slightly salty, crunchy walnuts — all brought together in a soft, moist crumb that made for an easy, satisfying bite.

The double chocolate chip (S$1.50) muffin leaned into familiarity. It may be a tried-and-tested classic recipe, but it is satisfyingly rich and comforting, especially if you’re a fan of chocolate — a sweet treat that pairs best with a hot cup of coffee.
We also had the peanut butter (S$1.70) muffin, a mild, nutty treat that keeps things simple.
We heard that the Nutella sea salt (S$1.80) muffin is another crowd favourite, so grab it if you see it!
Matcha muffin series

The matcha series feature muffins with a matcha-based batter, offering a slightly earthy, bittersweet profile underneath the toppings. The flavour of matcha is present, but not overpowering — mild enough to please fans, without turning away those new to the taste.

The matcha strawberry (S$2.50) surprised us in the best way. The strawberry jam filling added a bright, fruity sweetness that cut through the grassy tones of the matcha — all in all, the flavours worked to create a sweet and well-balanced treat.
The matcha white chocolate (S$2.50) muffin was also a delicious choice that avoided being too sweet.
The matcha Oreo (S$2.40) muffin, however, didn’t quite hit the mark for us. The crumbly Oreo topping and matcha base made for a dry bite, and the flavours didn’t quite gel together. It might have fared better fresh out of the oven.
Drinks with a little dessert

Of course, we couldn’t leave without trying its other claim to fame: The viral dessert drinks topped with its now iconic banana pudding.
The banana pudding topping was the highlight. Creamy, sweet, and indulgent, it felt like a dessert all on its own. It’s no wonder this treat has taken social media by storm.

We tried the banana pudding matcha (S$5.90) and banana pudding hojicha (S$5.90). The ceremonial grade, first-flush matcha boasts a smooth sweetness, while the hojicha brings a comforting, roasted aroma to the table.
However, the tea bases themselves fell a little short — both drinks were thinner than expected, which, unfortunately, resulted in a diluted cuppa.
Worth the hype?

While a few flavours didn’t quite wow, most were solid hits — the banana pudding is just as tasty as it looks.
It doesn’t reinvent the wheel, but this is worth a visit and the money, whether you’re after a midday snack or curious about the social media buzz.
Go early, pick your treats, and see for yourself — it really is, well, pretty good.
