NY Chargrill: Feast on smoky woodfire barbecue with Jewel Changi’s rain vortex as backdrop
Here’s something you don’t see often: Smoky wood-fire grilled meats, served up with a picturesque view.
But if you’re a sucker for both, then you’d want to check out the new NY Chargrill at Jewel Changi.
Set against the backdrop of the iconic rain vortex, the new concept features a barnhouse-inspired decor and allows diners to grill their own meats.
Focusing on wood-fire cooking, NY Chargrill’s attention to detail begins from the fire being used for grilling. It offers optional wood chips (S$5 per 30g) for those who want to jazz up the meats in five distinct varieties, all of which impart their own aromatic characteristics to the meats.
Diners can take their pick from apple for subtle sweetness, cherry for mellow and elegant smoke, hickory for earthy oomph, pecan for bold and robust flavours, and mesquite wood for the most bodacious punch of the bunch.
The wood chips then can be used to sizzle up the myriad cuts of meat and seafood available on NY Chargrill’s menu, ranging from beef brisket and tongue, to premium wagyu beef and iberico pork.
These can be ordered as a la carte options, each at 100g, with classic choices such as beef short plate (S$6.90 for 100g). You can also top-up S$4.90 to get two extra side dishes.
Sides include mushroom tempura (S$5), soybean paste soup (S$5) and kimchi mac & cheese (S$5).
Alternatively, pre-determined set meals (from S$10.90) are available in portions that range from 100g to 300g, and include a choice of two items from a selection of soups, rice or sides. There are also unlimited appetisers!
And if you aren’t up for grilling everything yourself, the menu at NY Chargrill boasts a plethora of sides and mains that are already conveniently prepared.
For example, there is the hearty grilled iberico pork jowl (S$25) and smaller skewer options available, including beef (S$6.50 per stick), pork (S$5 per stick) and chicken (S$5 per stick), for those who are wary about their own meat-grilling skills.
Similarly, pre-grilled seafood items can also be found on the menu — which is great since seafood is a bit trickier to cook perfectly.
Items include the tantalising grilled tiger prawns (S$19.90 for four) and a whole grilled squid for S$18!
Beyond all the grilled meats and seafood, NY Chargrill also offers a slew of affordably priced handmade pasta dishes.
We’re talking crab tagliolini for S$19, beef bolognese rigatoni for S$15 and truffle mushroom risotto for S$15 — definitely more affordably priced than your average pasta bar.
