Joji’s Sandwich Parlour: 24/7 retro American-style sandwich joint at Serangoon, opened by Joji’s Diner

Remember when Joji’s Diner first opened in 2021?

Sleekly designed to replicate retro American diner aesthetics, the vibey Serangoon eatery quickly went viral on social media as many cafe-hoppers flocked down to check out the decor and its all-day breakfast offerings.

Three years later, the team has come up with something new, right next door: Joji’s Sandwich Parlour, a 24/7 concept which officially opened on Oct 1.

Unlike its snazzy and vibrant neighbour, Joji’s Sandwich Parlour is a bit more laid back, much like the rustic sandwich joints in the States it draws inspiration from.

The space features a medley of wooden and metal textures, an assortment of park benches used as seating and a myriad of retro posters and memorabilia hung up on the walls.

Since it’s just opened, there’s still work to be done to fill up the walls, but the team plans to jazz up the place with even more decor to give it a more personable touch!

Overall, it’s very nostalgic and brings back memories of the 2000s — the playlist even serenades you with a bunch of classic earworms from bands such as Sum41 and Green Day.

Food-wise, as the name suggests, Joji’s Sandwich Parlour dabbles mainly in sandwiches, but also offers a good mix of mains and sides, if that isn’t quite your vibe.

Sandwiches galore

Although sandwiches are the main protagonists here, there’s a very quirky side character that would probably be a crowd favourite: Joji’s lasagna (S$18).

This one’s not like the other lasagnas — she’s handmade, coated, then pan-fried to give it a crunchy exterior. Very loaded. Very tangy. Very satisfying.

Of course, you can’t come to Joji’s Sandwich Parlour and not try the sandwiches. Duh.

There are a total of nine sandwiches on its menu and each one comes with a choice of two sides. You are given nine to choose from and options include potato hash, onion rings, mushrooms, pasta salad, and pico de gallo.

As far as sandwiches go, one of the more interesting items on the menu at Joji’s Sandwich Parlour is undoubtedly the shrimp po’boy (S$22), a classic dish from the south of ‘Murica that’s not commonly found in Singapore.

To make it, the team cuts up a soft baguette, adds in some greens and tops it up with ten to twelve tiger prawns, nicely coated in a piquant julius dressing.

Definitely a dish that will be a hit with seafood lovers.

If heavy, meaty sandwiches are your thing, then the classic Reuben (S$24) would likely impress you with its filling: Juicy chunks of black angus brisket that is brined in-house for 14 days before being smoked with hickory wood.

It comes with a choice of sourdough and focaccia for the bread, though sourdough has apparently been the more popular choice.

If all that carby goodness isn’t enough, the team also highly recommends the fresh calamari (S$14), which is apparently brought in fresh everyday from Jurong Port daily — nice, bouncy and not too oily!

Other than that, you’ll also be able to find other indulgent American-style classics such as St. Louis baby back ribs (S$22) and banana split (S$16) for dessert.

For those staying in the Northeast, this could be your next supper spot. You won’t find any spot in the ‘hood with these chill vibes, hearty-as-heck sandwiches and is open 24 hours.

This was a hosted tasting.
