Salted egg with fried chicken? Irvin’s and Wingstop team up for addictive collab
On the other hand, Wingstop is an American brand with over 2,000 restaurants worldwide and has become increasingly popular locally for its saucy-as-hell fried chicken.
This limited-time collaboration launches on Nov 14 officially and sees Wingstop putting a cool spin on Irvin’s iconic salted egg formula.
Salted egg fried chicken
No prizes for guessing the Irvin’s x Wingstop collab item: It’s fried chicken with thick salted egg sauce slathered all over it, along with addictive crunchy bits.
Created after one year of trial and error, the limited-time Irvin’s x Wingstop salted egg wings will be available at all Wingstop outlets.
If you love the nostalgic taste of zi char-style salted egg chicken, this is for you.
The salted egg wings will be available in two combos:
Combo 1 (S$13.90):
- Six boneless wings (three salted egg, three of a flavour of choice)
- One large Voodoo fries
- One ranch dip
- One regular/canned drink
Combo 2 (S$57.90, meant for four diners):
- 12 boneless wings (Irvin’s salted egg)
- 12 classic wings (2 flavours of choice)
- One large seasoned fries
- One large Voodoo fries
- One large curly fries
- One large mushroom fritters
- Four ranch dips
- Four regular/canned drinks
The chicken is light and crispy on the outside and juicy within, and more importantly, given a huge flavour boost with a healthy dose of salted egg umami and fragrance.
While some might expect it to be extremely jelak (overly rich), this special is actually quite well-balanced — strong enough for that salted egg kick, but doesn’t overwhelm the palate.
Other unique local flavours
If you’re ordering the Irvin’s x Wingstop set, you’d get to choose an additional flavour to go with it: So what should you get?
In case you haven’t been to Wingstop’s Singapore outlets before, there are a slew of other interesting flavour combinations on the menu.
Some popular options include garlic parmesan, spice-laden Louisiana rub and kecap manis.
The last one in particular is another charming take on local flavours — each piece is coated in the beloved Indonesian-style sweet-savoury sauce and finished with aromatic fried shallots. A bit like Indomie goreng.
If you’re looking for fried chicken that’s a bit different and gives more love to familiar local flavours, go down and check out the Irvin’s x Wingstop collab, and maybe get some kecap manis fried chicken at the side, while you’re at it.
