Wo Wo Dian, known for its handmade steamed buns and comforting Sichuan flavours, has added a couple of new dishes to its current spread in celebration of its second anniversary.

All of its dishes were designed for communal dining, making it an ideal spot for larger groups to enjoy full spread together.

First up is the shrimp and bamboo shoot bun (S$7.90), which came in a basket of three buns served hot and steamy. Wrapped in a soft, pillowy bun, the filling featured juicy shrimp paired with crunchy bamboo shoots and chopped greens, giving each bite a light sweetness and refreshing crunch. It’s warm, fluffy and comforting, while the combination of textures made it especially satisfying.

The salted egg yolk shrimp and tofu (S$18.80), paired especially well with a warm bowl of rice. Served bubbling hot, the dish featured silky-soft tofu and juicy shrimp coated in a rich salted egg yolk sauce that perfumed the air from the moment it arrived at the table.

Together, the savoury sauce and delicate tofu was a soul-warming combination that avoided being jelak (overly rich).

For proteins, there’s the orange-peel fish fillet (S$19.90), served in a plate of bite-sized pieces that are lightly crisp on the outside while remaining tender within. Tossed in a fragrant citrus sauce, the dish carries a subtle sweetness that balances out its savoury profile nicely.

If you prefer something meatier, there’s the crispy sweet and sour pork (S$16.80), featuring thinly sliced pork that’s deep-fried until crisp, before being coated in a sweet and tangy house-made sauce.

For familiar favourites and something comforting, dive into Wo Wo Dian’s usual slate of signatures. We had the sauerkraut sliced fish (S$29.90) — also known as suan cai yu — a hearty and comforting dish packed with tender fish slices, crunchy pickled vegetables, and a rich, tangy broth. There’s also a version with tender pork slices using the same flavourful base.

For spice lovers, you can opt for the spicy sauce version, too.

To top it all off, the cutest part has to be the Fu Wo Wo plushie, which comes free with a minimum spend of S$78. However, during its 50% promotional period from May 15 to May 18, the minimum spend drops to just S$39.

Honestly, it’s quite a worth-it deal, and the plushie is irresistibly cute. So if you love Chinese food and happen to be in town, this might just be the perfect excuse to drop by.

This was a hosted tasting.
