Ah, Songkran. We just love Bangkok during this time of the year — the vibrance, the buzz, and of course, the water fights.

Still, it might be hard to find the time to get away from work to bask in the festivities yourself.

In that case, you can still settle for the next best thing: A two-day Songkran bonanza hosted in Singapore by Thai Supermarket on Apr 13 and 14!

This will be Thai Supermarket’s first Songkran event and is held in collaboration with Thai Trade Center, Singapore and the Tourism Authority of Thailand.

It will feature products from four regions: Northeastern, eastern, central, and southern Thailand.

Held at Aperia Mall, it will be the first time the event is celebrated outside Golden Mile Complex — previously dubbed the “Little Thailand” of Singapore — which had been vacated for redevelopment last year.

Thai Supermarket is one of the stalwarts from Golden Mile that had found a new home at Aperia Mall, along with a few other popular Golden Mile crowd favourites.

Discounts and festivities

For the Songkran festivities, Thai Supermarket will be running a storewide discount of 10%, with no minimum spend required — great for anyone who wants to grab some Thai ingredients and snacks to fill up their home pantries.

Other than that though, there will also be a slew of exclusive food promotions found at the Thai Supermarket Food Street.

Deals include S$2 mini boat noodles at Slurp noodle bar for the noods lovers, S$2 for a bag of six Thai banana fritters at Talad Thai Banana and S$2 for decadent and fluffy Yaowarat buns at Yung Yung.

There’ll even be refreshing free Chang espresso beer available, limited to the first 100 redemptions — but you can also get yourself a can of classic Chang beer, starting from just S$2.40 a can!

In the case of those who are interested in cultural immersion, there will also be a host of special events and activities.

For example, a Song Nam Phra ritual will kick off the festival, where scented water is poured over a Buddha statue to wash away bad luck.

The statue will be placed at the Thai Supermarket entrance for the public, if they, too, want to earn some luck for the year!

Another very interesting activity is the human snack claw machine — available with a minimum spend of S$50 — where guests get the chance to grab Thai goodies to bring home.

On top of that, there will also be Thai dance and Muay Thai demonstrations, a photo-taking corner, and hands-on workshops where guests can learn traditional Thai massage techniques.

So if you’re hoping to get a fun dose of Thailand culture, a trip down to Thai Supermarket on Apr 13 and 14 might just be what you need to curb those wanderlust blues
