Malaysian herbal soup chain Souper Tang makes a comeback in Singapore
Souper Tang fans, you’ll no longer have to cross the border to get your herbal soup fix — the Malaysian herbal soup chain officially opened its doors in Singapore yesterday (July 29)!
Founded in 2009 by two traditional Chinese medical practitioners and herbalists, Souper Tang specialises in a wide range of herbal soups formulated to address wellness issues, such as heatiness and digestive issues.

The brand first opened in Singapore in 2016 before closing three years later.
It’s now back with 15 signature herbal soups — said to be the largest of any soup restaurant here — including well-loved classics from its Malaysian menu and some Singapore exclusives.

Located in the basement of Raffles City Shopping Centre, the 100-seater space offers a refined dining experience with a traditional Chinese-inspired interior, featuring spacious tables that can comfortably seat big groups, and floral Chinese art adorning the walls.
There’s also a retail section offering ready-to-brew packets of its famous soups — perfect for bringing a taste of Souper Tang home.

Besides its 15 signature soups, there are also communal plates and four brand-new Singapore-exclusive dishes such as the stir fry vegetable medley with goji berry and gingko (S$15.80) and the Imperial house-brewed rice wine mini hot pot (S$21.80).

We started with the Souper Tang signature soup (from S$28.80) featuring a whole chicken leg simmered with Panax ginseng, dried scallop and fish maw. A soup that’s simple in all the right ways — light on the palate, with a comforting chicken flavour that lingers.

If you love stronger flavours, you’ll want to go for the Singapore-exclusive premium fish maw & pork tripe pepper collagen soup (S$34.80).
Reminiscent of local bak kut teh, the soup boasts a bold pepperiness with a generous portion of sliced pork belly, pork tripe, fish maw and collagen.

Besides soups, Souper Tang is also serving up over 50 sharing plates.
Protein-wise, there’s the Souper Tang stewed yellow wine chicken with Tian Ma botany (S$20.80) — tender chicken chunks stewed in a sweet, soy-sauce-forward gravy, topped with Tian Ma, a herb used to alleviate headaches and dizziness.
You are invited to assemble your own kong bak paus (pork belly buns) with the home braised pork belly in rich dark special sauce (S$21.80), served with black sesame buns on the side.

Another dish of note was the jasmine tea-infused sauteed prawn (S$15.80) — fresh prawns served on a bed of barley topped with fried jasmine tea leaves.
Have the barley, bouncy prawn and earthy tea leaves in one spoonful for an umami and surprisingly refreshing bite!

For carbs, there’s the XO rice topped with twice-fried Emerald fish chunks (S$14.80) topped with crispy hae bee hiam (spicy dried shrimp).
Since it came in a stone pot, we expected some scorched rice to form around the edges — much like in bibimbap — but this didn’t quite materialise. It should perhaps have been cooked a tad longer to achieve this effect.

To wrap up your meal, have the signature caramel beancurd (S$6.80) — a jiggly soybean beancurd with a gula Melaka sauce on the side.
If you’re looking for something more traditionally Chinese, try the brown sugar herbal jelly with longan and peach gum (S$9.80).
To celebrate its opening, Souper Tang is offering 50% off selected dishes from August 2 to August 4.
If you’ve been a longtime Souper Tang fan or are just craving comforting soups, you can now head down to Raffles City Shopping Centre to get your fix!
