If you love dim sum, there’s no better time to pop down to Si Chuan Dou Hua Restaurant at Parkroyal on Beach Road, where a sumptuous all-you-can-eat a la carte dim sum lunch buffet awaits.

You might know Si Chuan Dou Hua as a pretty well-known, beloved Chinese restaurant for family gatherings and special celebrations. Did you know that it’s been around since 1996?

For its latest a la carte dim sum buffet, there’s a curated selection of over 50 dishes to pick from, spanning handcrafted dim sum, soups, spice-laden eats, and sweet treats.

To start off the feast, each diner is treated to a premium dim sum platter, featuring four exquisite creations: Steamed “shao mai” with sea urchin, steamed mushroom bun with minced chicken, steamed prawn dumpling with bird’s nest, and steamed pomegranate seafood dumpling. Each diner will be limited to one serving of this, though.

What else is on Si Chuan Dou Hua’s buffet menu?

Among the dim sum offerings, the crab meat and vegetable dumpling is one of the standouts.

Wrapped in an emerald green-hued skin that is delicately chewy, yet not too thick, each dumpling is generously stuffed with sweet crab meat and fresh greens — a simple and well-executed creation.

Another highlight is the radish puff pastry that features a savoury core of shredded radish, enveloped within an incredibly flaky golden shell. It’s accompanied with a sprinkling of sesame seeds for an added, nutty fragrance — making each bite oh-so-addictive.

Believe it or not, it’s so irresistibly good that I could easily see myself finishing off a few servings.

Be sure to try out the Sichuan specialities, too, such as the minced meat glutinous rice dumpling wrapped in banana leaf — or 叶儿粑. It’s a delicate treat that evokes the soft, chewy texture of a kueh, albeit with a slightly sweet-and-savoury minced meat filling.

Up for a challenge? You have to try the hot and sour soup. Photo: Shannon Yap/HungryGoWhere

Beyond dim sum, the hot and sour soup’s bold flavours are a must-try. It’s crazily well-suited for any spice lover, packing a peppery kick that creeps up slowly. It leaves a tingling numbness as you slurp it down — one that is not meant for the faint-hearted.

As someone with just a humble xiao la (slight spice) tolerance, this broth was, admittedly, a little out of my comfort zone, but should prove a worthy challenge for anyone who can handle the heat.

If you’re up for even more heat, you can’t miss out on the classic “Chong Qing” diced chicken with dried chilli

Si Chuan Dou Hua’s rendition lives up to what you’d expect — crisp, tender bites buried in a blizzard of dried chillies, alongside that signature numbing and spicy profile.

Seafood lovers will enjoy the deep-fried wasabi prawn.

These crispy, plump prawns are lavishly coated in a velvety wasabi sauce that does not overwhelm. It’s a crowd-pleaser that most spice-shy eaters (like me!) can thoroughly savour.

As with any good buffet, Si Chuan Dou Hua has a slew of desserts to end your meal on a sweet note.

You’ll find comforting classics, including the chilled mango sago and grass jelly, alongside handcrafted treats, such as the housemade bean curd with wolfberries and housemade bean curd with sugar syrup for those who prefer something lighter.

So don’t sit on it — this all-you-can-eat dim sum treat is only here until August 31!
