There’s a sort-of new coffee gem in Joo Chiat: Same Days Coffee

Launched in September 2024, Same Days Coffee was founded by a group of close-knit friends with a shared passion for all things coffee-related. They wanted to start a chill, vibey space, where they could bring their handcrafted brews and fresh bakes to the neighbourhood.

It’s quite an unassuming spot. While most coffee joints in the area take up a whole unit or two, this coffee stand is actually tucked away within luxury designer furniture store Grafunkt.

They both occupy the same space, so you can kick back and savour a hearty cup of coffee, or some light bites, after browsing the wares at Grafunkt.

Chill, laidback vibes

When you set foot into Grafunkt, you’ll spot Same Days Coffee right away — it’s located right by the entrance.

It’s a minimalist space, fitted in chic wooden furnishings and warm, cosy brown hues. The vibe is casual, welcoming and reminds us very much of visiting a dear friend’s home.

While the coffee stand operates mostly as a takeaway kiosk, there are limited seating options available, so you can bask in the ambience and enjoy a cuppa fresh in-store if you choose to.

Hearty, handcrafted brews on the menu

As its name suggests, the brand takes pride in its brews — espresso, cold brews and so on. There are also non-caffeinated drinks on Same Day Coffee’s menu for those who don’t enjoy coffee (and taste equally great!).

The staff highly recommends trying the signature specialty espresso beverages, which come in four tantalising flavours: Dirty matcha (S$7 for hot drinks, S$7.50 for iced), yuzu espresso (S$7.50), espresso tonic (S$7.50) and orange espresso (S$7.50).

They’re all house favourites that put delightful, flavourful twists on the classic espresso.

We went with the iced orange espresso — one of the variants among the four specialty brews — that was aromatic with a bold, full-bodied finish. It was also infused with tangy orange notes for a piquant punch of fruity flavour.

The iced matcha latte (S$6.50) is a must-order for avid green tea lovers. It’s a milky and creamy delight spruced up with the fragrant, mellow notes of matcha.

But if you’d like a tad more dimension to your drink, the iced yuzu matcha (S$7.50) is a zestier, more refreshing variation of the classic matcha latte. You can taste the light, grassy matcha notes in the drink, and they harmonise well with the fresh yuzu.

A selection of bakes to choose from

Same Days Coffee also touts a mouthwatering selection of moreish pastries to go with your brews, including the lemon drizzle cake (S$7). It’s a decadent, fluffy treat coated in an indulgent lemon drizzle, then topped with dried lemon bits. The last, in particular, adds an extra layer of tartness and bite to the bake.

You can’t say no to the banana bread (S$7). Boasting a soft, moist crumb, it’s a fragrant loaf of happiness crowned with a dollop of creamy housemade butter.

It’s a well-made pastry with a delectable combination of flavours, so much so that we’d imagine this to be the perfect breakfast snack.

Last but not least, we ordered the yuzu canele (S$6), a bite-sized morsel touting a crispy shell and velvety yuzu filling. It had a good balance of textures, and wasn’t too sweet as well. Overall, we loved this pastry to bits, especially when paired with coffee

The next time that we’re visiting the Joo Chiat neighbourhood, we’ll be sure to swing by Same Days Coffee for a pick-me-up and some bakes. Its menu may be simple, but its offerings are all well-executed, so we’d be sure to come back again.
