McDonald’s & Hello Kitty team up for CNY with Prosperity burger & collectible plushies
Hello Kitty lovers, we’re starting off 2024 strong: McDonald’s and Hello Kitty are teaming up for something special!
In case you missed it, McDonald’s Singapore has just teased an upcoming collaboration with everyone’s beloved cartoon cat on their social media channels.
If you’re wondering when it’ll drop, mark your calendars: The McDonald’s and Hello Kitty collaboration will be coming our way on Jan 25!
While the social media posts were careful not to fully divulge details, more discerning fans have made some smart guesses.
The timely tease, set on a red background with motifs done in a Chinese New Year (CNY) style, has brought up comparisons with the already-viral limited-time specials in countries such as Thailand and Hong Kong.
Commemorating Hello Kitty’s 50th anniversary and celebrating Chinese New Year, the collaboration with McDonald’s in those countries includes a set of limited-edition merch.
This includes a McDonald’s x Hello Kitty tote bag and even a crystal Mahjong set trimmed with adorable Hello Kitty motifs — perfect for those who want to huat for CNY! We can only hope that we’ll see similar items when the collab finally drops in Singapore.
Not just that, it also sees McDonald’s creating Hello Kitty-exclusive packaging as part of the limited-time menu. What are the items you ask?
In both countries, the collaboration also heralded the return of the Twister fries and ever-popular Prosperity burger, along with new limited-time desserts.
And, well… It’s not really CNY in Singapore without the Prosperity burger is it?
But it could be anyone’s guess what will be on the menu or what merch will be available — watch this space for the official announcement when the cat is finally out of the bag to find out the full details!
The cat is out of the bag
Update: The details for the collaboration are out! The CNY McDonald’s x Hello Kitty limited-time menu sees the return of the iconic Twister fries (from S$4.70 a la carte) and Prosperity burger (from S$6.60 a la carte).
They will be available for a limited time from Jan 25 onwards with options for chicken or beef and single or double patties. For those unfamiliar, it’s a yearly CNY staple featuring a juicy patty that comes slathered in rich black pepper sauce and finished with a heaping of crunchy onions.
Alongside the Prosperity burger and Twister fries, there will also be two specials: the pink guava McFizz (from S$4) and new pineapple pie (from S$1.80).
That’s just the tip of the iceberg, as McDonald’s also brings back the limited-time favourites of prawn-paste-loaded Ha! chicken drumlets (from S$3.40), pineapple coconut frappe (from S$4.70) and nostalgic kueh bangkit soft-serve (from S$1.20).
Some of these specials will feature in the indulgent Prosperity family bundle (S$38.80), which consists of two Prosperity single burger Extra Value Meals, two McSpicy extra value meals, two pineapple pies and two Ha! chicken drumlets. The perfect way to welcome the dragon year.
McDonald’s is also offering a quirky lo hei bundle (S$25), which is a jumble of 20pcs chicken McNuggets, four large Twister fries and four Ha! chicken drumlets as a cheeky alternative to the classic lo hei. It will be available until Jan 28.
Exclusive Hello Kitty merch
Besides the Prosperity burger, McDonald’s and Hello Kitty will be teaming up for something big, bringing back the iconic Hello Kitty plushies as part of the 50th anniversary exclusive plush collection.
Those old enough would remember the queues and pandemonium over these collectibles, so watch out for the crowds from Feb 15 onward, with the collection available in four unique sets:
