Market Bistro is a new Wall Street-style concept in the CBD with S$10 beers and wines and customisable lunch sets
The central business district is a cornucopia of trendy establishments so you can imagine being torn between a variety of lunch options when the clock strikes noon.
To ease your decision-making process, we have a brand new dining destination to recommend: Market Bistro.
The latest entrant to join Marina Bay Financial Tower 3, it’s a Wall Street-style restaurant that is located on Singapore’s very own Wall Street.
It’s a fast-casual outfit that is founded by the team behind Eleven Seventeen Capital, which has a repertoire of thriving F&B accounts in its portfolio such as Meadesmoore, Fat Belly (FBG) and Elixir Coffee and Wine.
While their other concepts are tailored for intimate dinner sessions, Market Bistro is designed to be a fuss-free, laidback spot for diners to grab a quick meal and go. It also aims to emulate the vibrant food scene found in New York’s bustling business neighbourhood.
A first look
The 42-seater place is modish and chic, following a minimalistic colour scheme of black and white that is accentuated with marble and dark wood furnishings.
Interior design-wise, it’s classy and refined, with nothing too flashy. We find it aligns with the brand’s ethos to “keep it real”, where yummy food and chill vibes are the main focus.
The simple, yet well done menu is led by executive chef Victor Loy, who spearheads all the kitchens under Eleven Seventeen Capital’s F&B empire. It touts a versatile lineup of dishes, where proteins are the stars of the show.
Those who have been to its steakhouses Meadesmoore or FBG will be familiar with the team’s culinary philosophy, where they have steadily built a reputation for dishing out premium, well-executed proteins. Chef Loy upholds the same standard at Market Bistro, too.
Customisable lunch sets
Crafted with the busy bees in mind, the menu offers diners the choice of customisable lunch sets and an all-day dining selection.
For the former, take your pick from a slew of poultry and seafood, sides and sauces to create the ultimate midday fuel.
The fish and chips (S$24) is highly praised for its crispy, golden-brown skin and succulent flesh. The fish is well-fried, isn’t too greasy and has the perfect amount of crunch that is oh-so-satisfying.
It also comes with fries and a side of gribiche (a cold egg dressing that resembles tartare sauce) that is piquant, creamy and tangy.
The 40 garlic half-roasted chicken (S$16) is another mouthwatering choice, featuring a juicy chunk of skin-on chicken that is coated with a layer of smoky char. The protein is well-cooked too — it is fork-tender and pulls apart with just a slight tug.
We chose the mojo verde (Spanish green sauce) to go with it, for a touch of vibrant, zesty notes that go impeccably with the roasted meat.
For those looking for a post-work dinner venue, Market Bistro also has a dinner menu that runs until 9pm. There is also an ongoing dine-in promotion for 20% off its evening items, so you get the best bang for your buck!
You’ll find heavier mains up for grabs, such as steak frites (S$28), Irish duck confit (S$30) and freshly shucked oysters (S$24). For entrees, the staff recommended that we give the fried baby squid (S$15) — one of their signature dishes — a whirl.
It packs a good bit of heat, since it also comes with a homemade spicy aioli sauce.
We understand it was specially created to complement the fiery chilli squid. And it does — the mayonnaise adds a welcome, buttery twang that cuts the spice.
A trio of decadent desserts
The dessert selection is lean, with only a trio of sweets to choose from. The chocolate brownie (S$12) has our hearts — decadent and chocolate-y, it’s crowned with a scoop of velvety vanilla ice cream and adorned with seasonal fruits and crunchy hazelnuts.
This treat will win even the non-chocolate fans over in a heartbeat, thanks to the rich chocolate fudge embedded within its fluffy chocolate sponge. Though sinful, every bite is too good to resist.
My colleague enjoyed the raspberry cheesecake parfait (S$12) as well, which sees a mound of velvety cheesecake laden with chocolate almond crumble. The piece de resistance is the zippy raspberry sorbet that adorns the treat.
It boasts the right amount of sweet and sour and brings out the rich flavours of the cheesecake. Together with the crunchy chocolate almond bits, the treat is a marriage of different textures that match each other wonderfully.
Daily happy hours with S$10 beers and wines
Drinks are also a wallet-friendly affair at Market Bistro. For booze that doesn’t break the bank, the restaurant has daily happy hour deals to keep the good times rolling!
Look forward to its draught craft beers and house-pour wines, which are priced at only S$10 a glass. Happy hour begins from 4pm onwards, so rally your buddies and swing by for a chill, post-work drinking sesh.
