It’s no secret that Changi Airport and Jewel Changi see throngs of visitors everyday, with many non-travellers in the fray who are there just for the sheer variety of food and retail options at these locations.

If you’re one of these individuals, or simply looking for a tucked-away spot to dine at, be it pre- or post-flight, then look no further — make a beeline for this new authentic Italian spot that just opened earlier this year.

Allora Ristorante & Bar is located at the ground floor of Crowne Plaza Changi Airport — easily accessible from Terminal 3 — and is helmed by experienced Italian chef Stefano Sanna, whose decade-long culinary experiences span the globe — in Italy, Michelin-starred spots in Shanghai and most recently, Egypt.

When you enter Allora’s space, the first thing that hits you will be how expansive the restaurant is. It takes up a good portion of the hotel’s lobby and has a bar area and even an alfresco space.

It also has two “concepts”. One half of the restaurant is modern, chic and perfect for those intimate date nights or girly tete-a-tetes, while the other half, which is next to the open kitchen, is charmingly rustic and great for group gatherings. You will however enjoy the same service and menu, regardless of where you sit.

Even though chef Stefano’s family hails from Northern Italy, the approach at Allora combines styles from both Northern and Southern Italy.

Expect to find freshly fired pizzas (you can see the oven right at the entrance!), artisanal pastas, mouth watering antipasti and hearty mains.

We found the pomodoro e basilico (S$22), a simple dish of spaghettone pasta topped with tomato sauce, olives, basil, and stracciatella cheese, which was surprisingly memorable. It’s a good representative of the level of thought and skill that goes into the dishes at Allora under chef Stefano’s watch.

If you love your pizzas, then you must order one or two and pop over to the counter to see it freshly made for yourself.

Italian pizza purists can do no wrong by opting for the Bari pizza (S$34), a creation by the head pizzaiolo chef Vincenzo Lavecchia, who combines burrata, tomato pulp fillets, anchovies, pantelleria capers, and basil for a taste of his hometown, the Italian port city of Bari.

Those who want something heartier can opt for the brisket pizza (S$32), which has mozzarella, mashed potatoes, pulled beef brisket and Italian-style barbecue sauce. It’s definitely filling and oh-so-decadent.

But don’t stuff yourself too much — leave space for Allora’s star dessert, the Alloramisu (S$16), which is assembled tableside. It features Savoiardi cookies soaked in espresso, doused with mascarpone and topped off with cocoa powder.

We personally like our tiramisu a little more coffee-soaked, but the novelty of the tiramisu being made live in front of us won us over.

Want to go full Italian when it comes to drinks? Its cocktail menu doesn’t disappoint with its fair share of limoncello-infused concoctions, There’s the Frangelico (S$16), which combines Frangelico liquor, Campari, lemon juice and limoncello, or the limoncello spritz (S$16) for those who might want something breezier.

Whichever you choose — pasta, pizza or both — one thing’s for sure, you won’t leave hungry with the variety of authentic Italian choices at Allora at Crowne Plaza Changi Airport.

This was a hosted tasting.
