KFC releases chilli crab mantou Zinger, chicken, and mantou set, and limited-edition crossbody bag for SG60
It’s the chilli crab wars! Singapore is celebrating its 60th birthday soon and we’ve seen many brands coming out strong with local-inspired creations and interestingly, we’ve seen chilli crab getting plenty of love.
You might have seen McDonald’s and MOS Burger release their chilli crab sauce specials — now, we’re getting a chilli crab mantou lineup from KFC!
The limited-time KFC chilli crab mantou specials will be available from Jul 23 to Sep 2, and even includes some adorable swag!
KFC chilli crab mantou specials
While McDonald’s has released a scrambled egg and chilli crab sauce-loaded chicken burger, the Colonel puts a rather unique spin on his beloved Zinger burger.
Fried chicken fans will be able to get their hands on KFC’s chilli crab mantou Zinger (from S$7.95), featuring the signature Zinger patty and a deluge of chilli crab sauce, all encased within a giant fried mantou bun.
Compared to the Golden Arches’ version, the sauce here is richer and boasts more spice — we personally prefer this, especially when paired with the mildly sweet and soft mantou bun.
But the fun doesn’t stop here: Besides the new Zinger, KFC also offers a chilli crab chicken (from S$9.70) set that comes with two pieces of hot & crispy chicken, a tub of chilli crab sauce, and two pieces of mini mantou.
The rich and spicy chilli crab sauce goes well with the seasoning of the hot & crispy chicken, adding a nice twinge of sweetness, while the classic pairing of fried mantou with chilli crab sauce is a definite comfort for any Singaporean.
We won’t say it performs as well as a chilli-crab-and-mantou-set at a nice zi char spot, but KFC does it pretty well!
Besides the chicken and mantou, the chilli crab sauce also pairs nicely with the fries and (our videographer says this) the mashed potato.
Our takeaway? Slather the sauce on everything!
It’s not just chilli crab for KFC’s SG60 celebrations though — the popular ondeh ondeh egg tart (S$2.50) also joins the party.
Fragrant pandan custard and gula melaka, on top of the flaky egg tart pastry?
‘Nuff said.
Mantou crossbody bag
