If you’ve been keeping up with the buzzing food scene in Singapore, you’ll have likely heard through the grapevine that a famous, time-honoured patisserie is opening on our sunny shores. And right in the heart of town, at Raffles Singapore, too.

True enough, the storied Dutch chocolaterie with over a century’s legacy, Huize van Wely, is set to launch its first-ever concept store sometime at the end of October. And while the official date is yet to be announced, the Netherlands-born store is well on its way to the grand opening.

We got a sneak peek — here’s what to prep your tummy for!

A dine-in space

The revered, 102-year-old Dutch brand boasts a slew of outlets under its wing — its local store here marks its second outpost in Asia, while the other is located in Jakarta at The Papilion Mall.

But what sets Huize van Wely Singapore apart from its sibling outlets is the patisserie’s first-ever concept boutique, complete with a charming tea room and a gorgeous bar lounge.

Unlike its other branches, which operate as retail takeaway kiosks, the Singapore location is a full-fledged, dine-in space, where diners with a sweet-tooth can sip on bubbly flutes of champagne and nibble on artisanal sweets.

While there aren’t any outlet-exclusive pastries up for grabs, the full range of Huize van Wely’s signature treats will be purchasable in-store, so there are plenty of options to tickle your fancy.

Sweets galore

When you enter Huize van Wely Singapore, you’ll be greeted by a delectable array of handcrafted chocolates, sweet and savoury cookies and whole cakes on display.

The first is most sought-after — chocolates are what the brand is known for, after all — and you can take your pick of its exquisite chocolate truffles and bouchees (a small pastry with filling).

Prices for its truffles are S$2.50 per piece and S$28.80 onwards for a box of nine or more. Bouchees-wise, each morsel costs S$4.50 and S$24 onwards for a box of four or more.

If you can’t decide which flavour to go for, check in with the server behind the counter, who’d be more than happy to assist you with recommendations.

If you’re inclined to dine at Huize van Wely Singapore for an afternoon tea soiree, there are also individual cakes and tarts on the menu. They’re served in bite-sized samplings, so you’d have more than enough room to savour different varieties.

The crowd-favourite Champagnecake is an unforgettable delight. It’s layered with a Moet & Chandon champagne cream ganache and white chocolate that’s embraced in an airy almond sponge cake. A dark chocolate, almond marzipan-covered shell then holds the pastry together.

The patisserie will also be unveiling high tea sets, though the team is still in the midst of firming up prices. We hear that they’re also accompanied by cocktails, so you can get a dose of booze alongside a heady sugar rush.

A go-to dessert spot

With a plethora of booze-infused confectionery and intoxicating drinks on the menu, we foresee plenty of interest in Huize van Wely Singapore

And for those eager to visit the store, you can stay in the loop with its social media platforms for any upcoming updates and developments.
