Great Nanyang launches retro after-dark alter ego with boozy Milo milkshakes and beers from S$4.90
If you frequent Tanjong Pagar, you might be familiar with Great Nanyang, a viral spot known for its old-school Nanyang-inspired aesthetics and comforting local grub.
But did you know that Great Nanyang has just launched an after-dark concept, which takes over at its Craig Road flagship from 5.30pm onwards?

Neon-drenched tables, comforting flavours, Jackie Chan movies projected onto the walls, Mandopop anthems blaring, and plenty of booze — that’s the vibe at Great Nanyang After Dark.
It’s made to be a retro after-work hangout spot where millennials and Gen X can be transported back to rose-tinted days.

But besides Jay Chou tunes and dimmed lights, what else does Great Nanyang After Dark have to offer?
Old-school flavours

Of course, as an after-work hangout spot, booze is a must.
And if you are a beer guzzler, you are in luck: Great Nanyang After Dark offers half-pints of Tiger and Guinness at S$4.90 and S$5.90 respectively!
Those are pretty good prices, especially considering it’s on draft, and in the CBD, too!
But if you want something really nostalgic, there are also boozy milkshakes on the Great Nanyang After Dark menu!
The milkshakes are priced at S$8.90 without alcohol — though you can top up S$3.90 to spike it.

The milkshake flavours include childhood favourites such as Milo, pandan, and red bean, while spirit choices include Martell, tequila, and Baileys!
As for the food options, Great Nanyang After Dark keeps to the same local flavours, but just focusing on more bar-appropriate grub such as small bites, skewers, and mini burgers.
It also has slightly bigger-portioned items such as signature crispy soft shell crab (from S$12.90) and chilli crab claws with fried mantou (S$12.90).

The mini burgers (from S$4.90) are particularly interesting. These remind us of Ramly burgers (but not as saucy), where the patty is wrapped with a fried egg!
It also gives you three different protein options: chicken, beef, and fish!

But you know what we enjoyed the most? The sinful Nanyang dry noodles (S$8.90), which is basically like good ol’ Maggi goreng, but jazzed up with a fried egg, a satay, and luncheon meat.
No bells and whistles, just extreme comfort, especially with the fragrant and punchy seasoning coated on the curly noods.
Wouldn’t you love to pig out on this while having a few drinks?

If you’re looking for smaller bar bites, Great Nanyang After Dark has seven different options, ranging from French fries and sweet potato fries to the very local fried lekor (a Malay fish sausage snack) and prawn paste chicken.
The bar bites are priced at S$5.90 for one, or S$15.90 for any three!
We thought the prawn paste chicken was pretty decent, and who doesn’t love some fried chicken with their booze?

But you know what’s the ultimate drinks companion? Satay and grilled stuff — there’s the classic chicken, beef, or lamb satay, and also otak and prawns.
The skewers are priced at S$2.50 per piece, and have a three-skewer minimum to order, but Great Nanyang After Dark gives you one skewer free if you order six!
Overall, it’s a pretty interesting new option for those working in the area. A spot with retro charm and one of the most affordable beer options in the area? Why not, right?
