Wonderful Bapsang: Nourishing tofu stews and Korean classics in Suntec City
Fans of Korean fare, rejoice! There’s a new concept specialising in soondubu (soft tofu) stews: Wonderful Bapsang.
It boasts 13 different varieties of soondubu on its menu, and even tofu made fresh daily!
Despite its name, the new store is unrelated to the multi-concept store with a Korean mart (Lee Mart) and street food stall (Chan Chan Chan) that previously stood in the same spot.

Instead, it is now helmed by Goldmoon Group — the team behind Tonshou, Seoul Noodle Shop and ongoing pop-up Yoon Yeon Dang.
The newly renovated space is more modern, and exudes a cosy vibe with its warm lighting, wooden accents and ample seating space.

Wonderful Bapsang prides itself on using only natural ingredients and you can even get a peek at how it’s made, at the tofu-making station in the front of the store.

Tofu all day, err’ day
Naturally, there’s plenty of tofu to be had at Wonderful Bapsang. There’s four housemade tofu sets (from S$22.90), which pairs tofu with various proteins such as beef, pork and even octopus, soft tofu hotpots (S$43.50), various tofu-centric side dishes, and of course, the aforementioned 13 soondubu variants.
These tofu stews come with quite the range of proteins, and a variety of broth types, too — dashi, soybean paste, okara (soybean pulp) and even a chilli pepper one — so there truly seems to be something for every ilk.
We tried the kimchi pork tofu stew set (S$23.90), with soft, creamy tofu with succulent pieces of pork bathed in a rich kimchi stew.

While the tofu is silky smooth and melt-in-your-mouth, it took a backseat to the rich flavours of the kimchi stew — it served as a nice accessory, rather than as the star of the dish.
It did, however, prove creamier than store-bought tofu I’d tried previously.
Each set meal also comes with four banchan (side dishes) — ranging from crunchy kimchi to lightly seasoned vegetables — to round out the meal, alongside a piping hot bowl of fluffy white rice.
If tofu is your thing, perhaps the four colour housemade tofu (S$24.50) will catch your eye. It wasn’t available during our visit, but it’s billed to be made with yellow bean, black bean, beet and red capsicum tofu, in pretty pastel hues of green, pink, orange and yellow.
For something soupy, yet light, there’s the cold soymilk noodles (S$18.90) that’s topped with generous chunks of fresh tofu. The dish also comes with little jars of salt and sugar on the side, inviting you to tweak the flavours to your liking.

It’s rich, smooth, and surprisingly comforting — especially with the silky tofu layered on top — though the flavours lean on the milder side.
Korean classics
While tofu is the core of Wonderful Bapsang’s menu, there’s also Korean home-style dishes and sharing plates to be enjoyed.
If you’re not a huge fan of stews, you can opt for one of four bibimbaps (from S$19.90), which come with a runny sunny side up egg, seasoned mixed vegetables and a protein, and seems generous enough for sharing between two.

We tried the stir-fried pork hot stone plate bibimbap (S$21.90), but we did find it a tad dry. It comes with a light broth, which did wonders in tying the meal together.
Fish fans can also avail themselves to set meals with rice, banchan and a choice of crispy fried Korean mackerel (S$23.50), hairtail (S$30.50) or yellow croaker (S$23.90).
And if you’re dining with company, the assorted pancakes (S$26.50) make for a great sharing platter. Each one comes with a different filling: Kimchi, mixed seafood, calamari, and, of course, the signature housemade tofu.

Each one was fried to golden perfection with a satisfying crisp on the outside. I personally liked the kimchi and housemade tofu — both packed with flavour and a perfect balance of crunch and chew.
If you’re craving a comforting bowl of tofu stew or Korean classics done decently, the new Wonderful Bapsang at Suntec City is worth a visit, the next time you’re in the area!
