The White Label Weekend Trolleys Buffet: A first-of-its-kind halal French-Malayan feast served tableside
Singapore isn’t short of buffets, from extravagant spreads that include everything from cold cuts, to seafood and live carving stations.
But what about a buffet that doesn’t require you to get up from your seat?
The White Label’s Weekend Trolleys Buffet offers a fresh take on the halal buffet experience by delivering French-Malayan-inspired dishes tableside, via a series of elegant trolleys. The only place in Singapore that offers a similar dining experience is Summer Hill, a French restaurant that offers a brunch trolley on weekends, too.
The White Label is situated inside The Sultan hotel, with this weekend-exclusive buffet taking place on the second floor. It’s available only on Saturdays and Sundays and is served tableside, aiming to create a personalised dining experience, with food served hot and fresh.
The buffet, which costs S$49 per person, is available during weekends only, at two seatings: 11.30am and 1.30pm.
How the Weekend Trolleys Buffet works
The buffet spread is served at intervals and has seven parts: Starters, salad & soup, carbs, sea, meats, carving, and sweets. For drinks, you may opt for the free-flow fruity sangria iced tea (S$9.90) or mocktails, organic teas and coffees.
All diners will also enjoy two complimentary Murotsu Bay oysters each, with the starters.
Once the savoury courses wrap up, you’ll have the chance to reorder any favourites before moving on to dessert.
Buffet highlights
Our meal started with a couple of cool, fresh oysters and a squeeze of lemon to bring out their mild sweetness — perfect to whet the appetite for what’s to come. Then came the harissa hummus and chicken liver pate, served with bread.
While the hummus was creamy, rich and with just the right hit of spice, the pate may be an acquired taste, but it’s a treat for those who love bold flavours.
Next up were the carbs, with a hearty helping of macaroni au gratin. It’s a dish that tastes like childhood comfort, though maybe a bit heavy for adult tastes — though tables around us didn’t seem to mind, as requests for seconds floated around.
Moving to the sea course, the scallops au gratin stole the spotlight, served in-shell with garlic, butter and breadcrumbs. Though we’d have loved them served piping hot, they still delivered on flavour, with the scallops’ natural sweetness shining through.
Then came the meats, and while you might assume the wagyu beef bourguignon would be the star, the Forty Garlic chicken came out as the surprise favourite. Served with whole garlic cloves baked to a soft, almost caramelised texture, the garlic melded perfectly with the tender, herbed chicken.
If our stomachs had any more room, this would’ve been a strong candidate for a second round.
Choosing a favourite dessert here is no easy task, but if you’re a fan of durian, the MSW durian pengat bread pudding is unmissable. The traditionally vanilla-sauced bread pudding takes a bold turn with durian pengat (a thick, creamy Southeast Asian dessert made with coconut milk and gula melaka), adding a luscious layer of decadence that feels almost sinful.
Not a durian fan? The coconut banana crumble comes in a close second, with a coconut fragrance that hits the nose first, followed by the sweet richness of caramelised banana.
Our final impression
Just like any buffet, The White Label Weekend Trolleys Buffet has its standout stars and quieter contenders. The difference here is you won’t be doing the legwork; each dish arrives at your table, with portions just right for sampling. If you want seconds, you’re welcome to reorder before dessert, which helps keep waste in check.
For a two-hour dining experience in a convenient location, this buffet is ideal for those weekend catch-ups with family or friends, where you can sit back, savour and let the food come to you.
