Those who love their beach clubs in Singapore will be familiar with Tanjong Beach Club, which has called the idyllic Tanjong Beach home since 2010.

Following a four-month revamp, the well-loved Sentosa beach club is now back with bolder colours, more seating choices and a refreshed menu that now includes a wood-fired section.

First, its colours: Once known for its pristine white look, Tanjong Beach Club has since swapped that up for warmer, more vibrant shades that instantly modernises the 15-year-old space.

It still has an indoor dining room and dining terrace, its iconic outdoor pool and daybeds, but there’s now a variety of choices. There are beach loungers which seat two, coastal tables (for the moments when you want sand under your feet, but don’t want to get into the pool), and an exclusive VIP lounge.

Minimum spend for a beach lounger starts from S$80 on weekdays, while daybed options start from S$150 for a pool daybed, poolside perch, or beach daybeds.

If you’re bent on a luxurious beach day out, its signature daybeds have a S$200 minimum spend on weekdays (and go up to S$650 on weekends), but it also comes with a welcome drink, fruit platter and towel rental. On weekends, you’ll even get a complimentary Aesop welcome kit.

But if you’re there just to dine, its dining room, dining terrace and coastal tables don’t come with a minimum spend.

Couple that with a whole new wood-fired section, and you have two very good reasons to head down to this refreshed beach club, whether you’re craving a beach hang or a waterfront meal.

Trying out Tanjong Beach Club’s new menu

The kitchen is helmed by head chef Mong Zhen Yew — whose previous experiences include Osteria Mozza and Spago — who aims to bring the concept of “barbecue by the beach” to diners with its new slate of wood-fired fare.

Highlights on the menu included the dry-aged barramundi (from S$36 for a fillet) and the wood-fired half chicken (S$36). The fish, which was dry-aged for a week, came out impeccably firm to the touch.

The red-mojo marinated chicken was an easy choice, too — tender and mildly smoky with just enough embellishments in the form of a yoghurt crema and shishito peppers, to still let the grilled protein shine.

The wild mushrooms (S$16), which came in a sweet-savoury marinade, were also a pleasant surprise, and I would have ordered more (since it does come in quite a small portion) if it weren’t for the fact that our table was already filled to the brim.

In line with the new wood-fired theme, chef Mong also serves up a ridiculously delicious sticky date pudding (S$18) with smoked milk ice cream and butterscotch. The team wanted a smoked milk ice cream, but couldn’t find it on the market so they decided to take matters into their own hands.

What you get is exactly how it sounds — a smoky, creamy ice cream scoop on top of a dense, yet not overly sticky, date pudding, with a light drizzle of butterscotch. It’s rich, but steers clear of being cloying, and a dish I’d gladly make the trek back into Sentosa for.

The rest of the menu comprises the usuals that you’d expect the iconic beach club — raw seafood items, salads, starters such as crispy calamari (S$24) and corn ribs (S$14), brunch dishes such as avocado toast (S$24), and mains such as crab mafaldine (S$36), too.

It’s not a huge menu by any standards, but there’s definitely something for everyone, even the little ones.

If you’re there for drinks, its cocktails are crafted in collaboration with the folks behind the Potato Head Bali’s cocktail programme, so you best believe the drinks are well-tailored for a breezy day at the beach.

Else, it has a wide selection of alcoholic choices that run the gamut from champagnes to wines, beers, and spirits.

Being a beach club, it also has its fair share of alcohol packages that start from S$418 for one bottle of premium spirit, 10 pints of Peroni and four Electric Sunset shots.

Regardless of your reasons for being at the beach, this refreshed spot at Sentosa has got your back with its expanded options — both across the floor and on its menu.
