Sushi Zushi expands to Bugis with new outlet-exclusive menu and opening deals
Sushi Zushi is growing its presence in Singapore with a brand-new outlet at Bugis Junction, its third after Funan and Westgate.
The Japanese restaurant is best known for quality handrolls that are freshly made in front of you, and affordable prices.
We swung by its latest outpost shortly after it opened, and found a queue already forming.
Given its reputation and its strategic spot in Bugis Junction’s bustling basement, surrounded by plenty of other popular eateries, we’re honestly not surprised.

The new outlet features an open-concept layout, with counter seating all around the sushi bar, allowing diners and passers-by to watch the chefs prepare each order, right before their eyes.
Outlet exclusives

To celebrate the opening, Sushi Zushi has brought over its fan favourites from its existing outlets, while introducing a lineup of Bugis-exclusive dishes.
The new monaka series stole the spotlight. Inspired by traditional Japanese monaka wafers, the crisp rice wafers are filled with premium seafood and open into an elegant seashell-like presentation that’s guaranteed to catch your eye. Available in two variations — the foie gras uni monaka (S$18) and negitoro uni monaka (S$10.80) — these bites are as photogenic as they are indulgent.

The foie gras uni monaka was our favourite, pairing rich, lightly torched foie gras (goose liver) with creamy, briny uni (sea urchin) for a luxurious bite. The crisp monaka wafer adds a satisfying crunch!
If foie gras isn’t your thing, the negitoro uni monaka is just as decadent. It features finely minced fatty tuna layered over seasoned sushi rice, then topped with creamy uni, ikura (salmon roe) and black tobiko. Every bite is packed with umami, with the vinegared rice serving as a good canvas for the bursts of briny sweetness from the roe and uni.

Also new on the menu is the somen, thin Japanese wheat noodles that are traditionally served chilled, making them especially refreshing on a warm day.
There are two variations to choose from: the truffle uni somen (S$14.80) and the mala salmon somen (S$12.80). We went for the latter out of curiosity — after all, mala and cold noodles aren’t a combination you see every day.
Surprisingly, it worked remarkably well. The chilled somen provided a refreshing contrast to the fragrant, tongue-tingling mala sauce, while the salmon added a rich, buttery finish that tied everything together.
If you prefer something more classic, there’s the truffle uni somen topped with creamy uni, ikura and black tobiko, and finished with aromatic truffle for an indulgent combination of rich, briny and earthy flavours.
Rounding out the new additions is the Nankotsu karaage (S$8). A staple at Japanese izakayas, the crispy deep-fried chicken knee cartilage delivers an addictive crunch that’s perfect alongside a drink.
Don’t miss these launch promotions
While the new additions are worth trying, you can never go wrong with Sushi Zushi’s signature favourites — especially when they’re available at a discount.

One highlight is the one-for-one premium handroll promotion, available for its foie gras uni (U.P. S$19.50) and hotate uni handrolls (U.P. S$18). The promotion applies to matching handrolls only, so if you order the hotate uni handroll, you’ll receive another hotate uni handroll for free (and likewise for the foie gras uni handroll). The offer is valid for dine-in only and is available while stocks last.

Of course, no Japanese meal is complete without a comforting bowl of chawanmushi. During our visit, the monthly special was the uni chawanmushi (S$9.30, U.P. S$10.30), featuring silky steamed egg topped with creamy uni. Rich yet delicate, it was packed with umami and made for a comforting side.
Whether you’re dropping by for the Bugis-exclusive dishes or making the most of its launch promotions, there are many reasons to check out Sushi Zushi’s newest outlet. Just be prepared for a wait!
