Weave at Sentosa heats up with Niku Niku Oh!! Kome’s popular Japanese hamburgs and free-flow rice & soup

Last year we had New Bahru bringing the cool back to River Valley, with all the hottest new openings of the year congregating in one spot.

This year, we see Sentosa recreating that formula as things heat up at the new Weave, the new lifestyle mall at Resorts World Sentosa.

We’ve seen many international brands open: Seoul’s Standard Bread, world-famous macaron brand Pierre Herme Paris and now, Niku Niku Oh!! Kome.

It will be officially open to the public on Aug 7.

The brand is the brainchild of Monogatari Corporation, one of the F&B heavyweights in Japan that has a portfolio of multiple popular restaurant chains and boasts over 700 outlets worldwide.

Niku Niku Oh!! Kome itself has close to 50 outlets worldwide and can be found in markets such as China, Indonesia and the Philippines.

What makes the brand stand out here? It’s a Japanese hamburg steak specialist brand and Singapore has a shortage of those.

Free-flow rice, soup, and veggies

One cool thing about the restaurant is its dining experience — diners get to see their hamburg steaks cooked right in front of them, on a central teppan (metal grill).

There’s a powerful exhaust located right above it, so the smell of smoke doesn’t linger on your clothes.

Once they are cooked, your hamburg steaks will be brought over to your table and placed on a personal teppan right in front of you.

You can let it sit to sear a bit longer, or take it off the grill immediately, if you prefer your steak closer to medium rare — it all depends on your preferred doneness!

Each set comes with free-flow servings of miso soup, grilled vegetables and rice.

Rice buckets out there will want to dig in: Niku Niku Oh!! Kome takes pride in its rice, which is a fragrant and slightly starchy blend of Japanese Niji no Kirameki rice and Vietnamese jasmine rice.

On top of that, you also get a pasteurised egg to give it that extra touch of richness and texture.

How Niku Niku Oh!! Kome works basically like this: Sets start from S$16.80 with two original hamburg steaks. Prices increase based on how many and which type of hamburg steak you order.

For example, the three original hamburg steaks will set you back S$18.80, but so does one original steak and one cheese steak!

While Niku Niku Oh!! Kome’s menu has only two staple selections of original and cheese, there are also seasonal flavours available, such as the current special of avocado.

Our favourite of the three is undoubtedly the original hamburg steak

The hamburg steaks at Niku Niku Oh!! Kome are fastidiously crafted daily, each containing 90g to 95g of wet-aged ribeye and beef brisket — and we think the original is the best way to enjoy all that richness.

The sear on each patty is great — each one comes sporting a nice lick of smoke, while still being chock-full of beefy flavour. Coating it in pasteurised egg yolk then gives it a sexy silkiness.

Niku Niku Oh!! Kome also supplies each table with an assortment of three sauces and five seasonings to complement the meat.

These include onion sauce, Aurora sauce (a mayo and tomato sauce mix), as well as mustard, Japanese wasabi salted malt and Korean chilli sauce.

The restaurant also gives some interesting suggestions, such as pairing Aurora sauce and mustard to give a decadent cheeseburger flavour, or BBQ sauce and Korean chilli sauce for something close to a traditional yakiniku profile.

Those who like cheese, though, will be delighted when they order Niku Niku Oh!! Kome’s other signature, the cheese hamburg steak.

Not only is it topped with a slice of cheddar, but it’s also crowned with a mound of grana padano, freshly grated when the steak is served.

The cheddar adds a bit of sharpness to contrast the beef, while the grana padano adds a mild salinity — not too strong and worth trying, even if you’re not the biggest fan of cheese.

To spice things up, we also tried the seasonal special that features avocado.

The steak is topped with teriyaki sauce, tartare and slices of avocado to introduce some twang and fresh earthiness. Not bad, but we preferred the OG offerings.

If you find yourself needing more excuses to head to Weave, maybe for Standard Bread or Pierre Herme, or even looking for somewhere to dine before you visit USS, why not pay Niku Niku Oh!! Kome a visit?

This was a hosted tasting.
