McDonald’s to charge 50 cents for curry sauce for non-McNugget orders from Jan 2, 2025
Fans of McDonald’s curry sauce will need to pay a little extra to satisfy their sauce cravings from January 2 next year — 50 cents per tub to be exact.
Currently, all Extra Value Meals (with McNuggets and without McNuggets), as well as a la carte McNuggets orders, are entitled to sauce tubs, with additional ones costing 30 cents.
Under McDonald’s Singapore’s new condiments policy, which takes effect from January 2, 2025, diners will be allocated a specific number of sauce tubs (curry, BBQ or honey mustard) only if they order items or meals with McNuggets.
Any requests for additional sauces beyond this allocated quantity will be chargeable at 50 cents per tub.
McDonald’s Singapore is also implementing an allocated quantity on its other sauces — hotcakes syrup, whipped butter and salad dressing — and charging 50 cents to 70 cents, should you request for additional sauces beyond what is allocated.
In its newly updated policy, McDonald’s Singapore explains that this move is in a bid to “help manage food waste and rising food costs”, and has assured customers that the new policy “takes into consideration the appropriate number of sauce packs to be enjoyed with the food”.
Not sure what this means for you as a sauce lover? Here’s a table of what and how many McDonald’s sauces customers can expect to receive with their orders and what they’d have to pay for:
It also appears that ketchup and garlic chilli sauces will continue to be provided at no extra charge, though each food order will receive a fixed amount of sauce, depending on whether you order a la carte items, Extra Value Meal, Happy Sharing Boxes, or Happy Meals.
This is the first time in more than a decade that McDonald’s has made changes to its condiments policy, with the last major change taking place in 2012.
Back in 2012, McDonald’s Singapore phased out sauce tubs for meals with no McNuggets, but would provide one tub if requested. Additional tubs beyond that would cost 30 cents each.
Those who ordered meals with McNuggets would be entitled to some tubs — depending on the size of the order — with an additional tub free, only upon request.
With this new condiments policy in 2025, however, it seems like McDonald’s Singapore is not even allowing an “only by request” approach.
While it’s not entirely bad news for sauce lovers — since you’d still get at least one free sauce tub if you order McNuggets (even a la carte) — it is a huge bummer for those who love to drown their food in copious amounts of sauce.
Perhaps this would be a good time for McDonald’s Singapore to bring back its full-sized curry sauce bottles, which it sold back in 2016 and 2019.
