KFC launches new Mala Goldspice chicken for National Day
Following this year’s unlimited chicken feast and the return of Chizza, KFC is set to introduce a brand-new chicken flavour: Mala Goldspice.
If you’re a KFC fan, you’ve probably enjoyed its Goldspice chicken flavour, a seasonal favourite inspired by our love for salted eggs. Debuting in 2018, this flavour has been back quite a few times, most recently in 2023.
As an added twist, mala is added into the mix this time round, which gives us a brand-new flavour to try. The fast-food brand is also inviting diners to vote for which flavour stands out more: Mala or Goldspice?
KFC’s Mala Goldspice will be available from Jul 17 to Sept 3, so try it for yourself and tell us what you think!
A taste test of the new KFC Mala Goldspice
If you’ve tried the Goldspice chicken, you’d know it’s a harmonious blend of salted egg, curry leaves and spices, with bold and tangy flavours.
This time, it is paired up with a numbing mala flavour.
But as we know, everybody has different tolerance levels for mala and spice, so some may taste more of the numbing Mala flavour, while others might find the rich sweetness of the Goldspice more striking.
That being said, here’s what we thought of KFC’s Mala Goldspice: Before we sank our teeth into the chicken, we were enveloped by a rich aroma dominated by salted eggs and curry leaves, with a mild whiff of spices came in second.
Between the bone-in Mala Goldspice chicken (S$4.60 per piece) and the boneless Mala Goldspice tenders (S$6.80 per three pieces), the former had a more prominent mala flavour that numbed the tongue, with umami-heavy salted egg flavour as an undertone. Meanwhile, the latter was much less spicy and lighter in taste, with the salted egg flavour taking a starring role.
After your meal, help settle the debate: Vote online on which of the flavours stand out more. Is it the mala or the Goldspice? All voters receive a S$2 voucher that can be used for your next purchase of a Mala Goldspice bundle through KFC’s app or website.
There will also be physical voting installations available at KFC’s Plaza Singapura and Jurong Point outlets.
The pandan-tinged ondeh ondeh egg tarts are making a return, too. They are available either a la carte (S$2.40) or you can get them paired with a regular Milo drink with a top-up of S$1. To make the deal even sweeter, there’s even a buy-five-get-one deal during this promotional period.
Mala Goldspice bundles and more
In addition to enjoying it ala carte, you can also get the new Mala Goldspice flavours in bundle deals.
The Mala Goldspice box (S$12.85) includes two Mala Goldspice chicken pieces, two regular crispy chicken tenders, along with one regular fries, one regular whipped potato, and one regular Sjora mango peach drink.
If you have a smaller appetite, you can get the individual meal (from S$10.25), and choose between two pieces of Mala Goldspice chicken or five pieces of Mala Goldspice tenders. These come with one regular whipped potato and one regular Sjora. For the two-piece chicken meal, you get one extra regular coleslaw.
For sharing with friends and family, there are group meal options (from S$23.95), tailored for different group sizes.
KFC Mala Goldspice is available for dine-in or takeaway at all KFC outlets, except for its outlets at Sentosa and Singapore Zoo, and delivery.
