In a world where food mashups — croffles, crookies and the like — are all the rage, KFC’s Chizza fits right in.

And it’s particularly fitting, especially since Singapore seems to be going through a pizza craze at the moment, with restaurants such as Da Michele, Beyond the Dough, Fortuna et al making waves.

A fusion of the fast-food brand’s iconic fried chicken patty and a pizza, the Chizza is essentially  pizza on crack. An array of toppings, including melty mozzarella cheese, chicken ham, mushrooms and KFC’s signature cheese sauce sits atop two fried chicken breast fillets, instead of your usual pizza dough.

It does remind us of chicken parmesan, though.

According to KFC, more than half a million Singaporeans tried the Chizza the last time it was in town in 2017 and the item sold out within two weeks.

This international sensation first debuted in the Philippines in 2015 and has since delighted fans from all over the world — Korea, Thailand, Germany, Mexico and many more. Earlier this year, KFC also held a “Chizzeria” pop-up in the U.S., where KFC transformed one of its stores into a pizzeria and served up Chizzas for free.

It’s making a comeback on our shores from yesterday, Jun 19, until Jul 16 — so be sure not to miss out, if this is your thing!

This time round, it sees two new flavours. For a tangy twist, opt for the Chizza tomato, dressed with zesty tomato basil sauce. If you prefer something rich and creamy, there’s the Chizza Alfredo with a luscious white cream sauce.

It’s a win-win: The Chizza satisfies your pizza cravings while being relatively light on the carbs.

Eating it did remind us of enjoying a slice of pizza, although we found the combination of pizza toppings and fried chicken rather novel. Naturally, the fried chicken base gave the snack more bite than your usual doughy pizza base. Where there usually is a chewy or sometimes crispy base, there was a solid crunch as we sunk our teeth into it.

All in all, it was quite filling, so you might not want to consume as much as you would with a regular pizza.

Savour Chizza as a quick snack on its own (S$7.95), or if you’re looking for something more substantial, get one of these meal options.

The Chizza meal (S$9.95) is good for one and contains a Chizza of your choice, medium fries and regular Coca-Cola Zero Sugar, while the Chizza box (S$12.95) has all these, plus an additional piece of chicken and one regular whipped potato.

For sharing with a friend, go for the buddy meal (S$27.95) with Chizzas of two flavours, two pieces of chicken, two regular Coca-Cola Zero Sugar, one medium whipped potato, and one cheese fries.
