Coach opens world’s first Coach Bar in Singapore, with S$12 martinis served tableside

Whether you’re a fan of the luxury fashion label Coach or simply enjoyed its previous themed Coach Cafe located at the Coach Play Shophouse along Keong Saik Road, good news — it’s back with a new iteration, The Coach Bar.
Located within the same space, behind a Coach showroom, albeit with a moodier aesthetic, The Coach Bar joins the brand’s series of hospitality experiences around the globe.

The space is small and quaint, but tastefully decorated in a somewhat-retro look, and is warmly lit, with plenty of candles and mood lighting to add to the vibes.
In a nod to the brand’s New York roots, the bar also has shelves that appear stocked with old-school cassette tapes, and blasts similar tunes, from 1990s classics to even funk.

There’s a huge service counter that greets you as you enter the space, but you won’t need to stand around to order anything.

One of The Coach Bar’s signature items, the martini (S$12) comes with what the team calls “proper martini service”, where a crew member will come by your table with a tray of ingredients and garnishes, and customise a martini for you on the spot.

Yes, you read that right, it’s S$12 all evening, from when it opens at 4pm up till midnight, regardless of the hour.
You can ask for anything from a dry martini to a dirty one, or even a Vesper variation — your martini, your choice. We have to admit we were also downright impressed when they swapped our martini glass halfway for an ice-cold one — just the way it should be enjoyed.

If you need some nibbles to have with the stiff martini, the bar serves up light bites such as bar chips (S$3), pastrami poppers (S$16), and fried olives (S$12).

Those coming for dinner or wanting something more can opt for the heftier mains, which are American favourites, such as a grilled cheese sandwich (S$23), with a side of tomato soup, and a wagyu beef Silver Service hot dog (S$30).

In the name of luxury and indulgence, there’s even the option to add caviar to your hotdog (additional S$30), get some caviar by the bump (S$15) or a caviar by the tin (S$100).
Us? We were fully embracing Coach’s very first bar in the world by enjoying its high-quality cocktails, all made in-house and holding their own, when placed side-by-side with many of the reputable cocktail bars that surround it.
Coach fans should definitely get the Tabby Disco tea (S$22), which comes with tarragon-infused Grey Goose vodka, a housemade lemonade, rooibos tea and Coach “C” citrus ice cubes.

It’s a refreshing quencher that’s easy-to-drink and even comes as a mocktail (S$16) if you prefer a zero-proof version. The C-shaped cubes also add to its drink’s appeal.
Those in the search for something a tad stiffer will do well to opt for the Manhattan (S$28), which comes with Buffalo Trace bourbon, peated scotch, vermouth, pickled cherry, and flamed orange. It’s a strong drink, sure, but one that’s well-balanced and goes down a bit too easily.

Other items on the menu include known classics such as an espresso martini (S$25), Waldorf highball — a Waldorf-salad-inspired highball, a Cosmopolitan (S$24), and a spicy Margarita Royale (S$27).
Other alcoholic beverages there include champagne, wines, and even a crispy American Pasbt Blue Ribbon lager (S$13).

With such robust and relatively wallet-friendly drinks (S$12 in this economy?), and a decent line-up of bar bites, we think The Coach Bar in Singapore is worth a trip for all cocktail-loving aficionados, and even more for Coach fans.
We understand from the team that the bar will operate at this space permanently for now, with no end date in sight.
This was an invited tasting.
