Chagee lovers: You no longer need to cross the border to get your milk tea fix.

You may recall that the popular Chinese milk tea brand left our shores early this year — its last store at Funan shopping mall ceased operations on Jan 14 this year, after it first launched in 2020.

Before its departure, there were 12 franchised outlets across Singapore in malls such as Wisma Atria, Ang Mo Kio Central, Bugis+, Funan, and more.

In an Instagram post on May 9, the brand announced its Singapore comeback in August. It subsequently continued to tease fans with more details.

We now know that there will be a total of three stores at Orchard Gateway, Plaza Singapura and Raffles City that’ll open in August, as well as a limited-time pop-up running from Jun 24 to 30.

The new stores will not be managed by a franchisee, but instead be under Chagee directly.

A leading milk tea brand

Well, what makes Chagee so popular?

Ask any seasoned Chagee-goer and they’ll tell you that the aroma and flavours of its teas take centrestage.

The brand prides itself on having teas that stand out, rather than what most people have come to recognise bubble tea for — chewy tapioca pearls, fruity syrup mixtures and a sweet iced treat to quell the heat.

Its drinks are made with freshly brewed tea leaves — rather than powdered tea — and quality ingredients. You’ll also find modern twists on traditional teas — tieguanyin and the like.

The brand is also committed to eliminating ingredients with trans-fatty acids. It has since stopped using non-dairy creamers and aims only to use the freshest, highest quality ingredients.

And it seems to work well, too. The brand — first established in 2017 in Yunnan, China — now has 4,500 branches internationally and is considered one of China’s leading milk tea brands.

What to try from Chagee’s menu

Chagee’s winning drink is its jasmine green milk tea, with around 438 cups sold every minute worldwide.

This signature drink will be available in Singapore once the brand returns officially in August.

If you can’t wait until then, though, be sure to head down to Chagee’s limited-time pop-up for a sneak peek (sip?).

HungryGoWhere understands the full menu is still kept under wraps for now, but Chagee will be unveiling more details on its social media pages closer to its launch.

Chagee’s pop-up

The pop-up will be held at Plaza Singapura from Jun 24 to 30, 10am to 10pm, at the mall’s main atrium on level one.

It’ll be open to the public for walk-ins, with no reservations possible. All drinks and merchandise are available on a while-stocks-last basis, so be prepared!

And while you’re sipping on milk tea at the pop-up, burn off some of those calories by taking part in Chagee’s #100caloriechallenge, which can net you free drinks and exclusive merchandise. There’s a one-minute spin session, a frisbee throwing segment and a jumbo bowling station!

All you have to do is rack up 100 “calorie points” by taking part in these three activities and be rewarded with an exclusive Chagee PopSocket phone grip and a voucher for a large cup of fresh milk tea. (Do note that the milk tea can only be redeemed at its new stores once they open in August.)

Bonus: If you’re one of the first 50 participants to complete the challenge each day, you’ll also earn yourself an additional Chagee tote bag.

For even more intense calorie-burning activities, Chagee will also be hosting three free K-Kardio (K-pop cardio) dance classes, limited to 20 participants per session, at the mall’s atrium. Participants will also walk away with an exclusive goodie bag!

If this is up your alley, keep these dates open:

  • 28 Jun, Friday, 7pm to 8pm
  • 29 Jun, Saturday, 3pm to 4pm
  • 30 Jun, Sunday, 2pm to 3pm

You can also book a ride to the Chagee pop-up to participate in its activities.
