Chill vibes & good coffee at Accompany Coffee, Joo Chiat’s gorgeous new hidden furniture store cafe

Do terms such as “Louis Poulsen”, “Eames chair”, and “Akari lamps” make your ears prick up? And if you are a connoisseur of fine furniture, Grafunkt is a name that you’d be equally familiar with.

But what about Accompany Coffee?

The next time you visit Grafunkt’s snazzy Joo Chiat showroom, you’ll notice a new sign plastered over the cafe space that Same Days Coffee used to occupy. (It had opened within Grafunkt in 2024, until ceasing operations in June this year.)

Accompany Coffee is the newcomer that had taken over the same space since August, offering its own take on coffee, matcha, and pastries.

The cafe has taken up a little nook to the left of the space, and is surrounded by Grafunkt’s myriad of chic wares, which include Louis Poulsen lamps, USM shelf systems, and more.

It’s a sleek, minimalist space framed by wooden pillars and carpentry. As its centrepiece is a paper lamp with a strikingly unique silhouette.

But not everything is new. The fittings stay largely the same — even the barista.

Accompany Coffee is actually a family-run business, and one of the folks running the coffee station is a friendly 67-year-old man — who previously worked at Same Days Coffee, too!

He runs point as barista, while his daughter is in charge of the small-batch bakes.

The offerings on Accompany Coffee’s menu are quite diverse: They range from blacks (S$5.50), whites (S$6), and chocolates (S$6) to more unconventional house specials.

One house-special we were really drawn to was the Accompany einspanner (S$8.50) — something that’s not as prevalent in Singapore as its more viral cousin, the Mont Blanc.

Accompany Coffee builds its einspanner using a deep, potent cold-brew as the base, before blanketing the coffee with a plush citrus cream foam.

Unlike a classic Mont Blanc, einspanners don’t usually incorporate citrus, but Accompany Coffee’s rendition does — it carries vibrant, pronounced zesty notes.

There’s also an enlivening touch of salinity in the mix, and everything blends harmoniously with the coffee — giving you something that’s halfway between an einspanner and a mont blanc.

One cool thing about the foam is that it’s also used in another house-special, the jasmine cream foam (S$8).

Paired with the fragrantly floral jasmine tea, though, it almost feels more like some kind of foam-topped drink you’d get from one of the BBT shops!

Matcha girlies can also get their matcha fix here with a pretty solid strawberry matcha (S$8.50).

This was very well balanced, sporting a creamy texture, along with a pleasant mix of strawberry tartness and earthy matcha.

As for Accompany Coffee’s housemade pastries, the house cheesecake (S$8.50) was the standout. It’s exceedingly simple but its velvetiness and decadence are all you need in a cheesecake.

This is probably as good as it gets at any cafe, outside of renowned burnt cheesecake specialist Queic, of course.

The citrus olive oil cake (S$7.50) was also quite enjoyable, especially with the airy cream and orange zest Accompany Coffee piles onto it.

That said: While we enjoyed the crumbly texture and the toasted edges, some other customers have given feedback that it tastes a bit too burnt for them. Your mileage may vary.

Taking everything into consideration, Accompany Coffee is definitely a spot we would consider parking ourselves at if we find ourselves in Joo Chiat with a spot of time.

How many places are there that have good drinks and pastries, as well as power plugs and such a gorgeous setting?
