A new, exciting twist on the classic churro has landed on our shores!

Twist & Buckle is a renowned churros specialist from Hong Kong that opened its first international outlet in Singapore last November.

Celebrated for its creative reinvention of the traditional snack with flavours and high-quality ingredients, Twist & Buckle has even been recognised in the Michelin Guide for Hong Kong in the last two years.

If you’ve been wondering how this seemingly simple fried-dough snack can be so well-loved, now’s your chance to try it for yourself at its maiden outlet in Novena.

The brand attributes its standout quality to its ingredients and attention to precision. They employ specialised equipment such as a Jose Luis Blanco automated churros-making machine imported from Spain. It fries the dough to perfection, ensuring a crisp texture and perfect golden-brown finish every time.

Each churro is freshly fried to order in small batches. We did need to wait for about 10 to 15 minutes, but it was well worth it for the warm, crispy churros that emerged from the fryer.

Once it’s lifted out of the fryer, the churros are placed on a rack to cool before being coated in a variety of flavours and toppings.

Light, crispy, and topped the way you like it

These churros are light and crispy, with just the right amount of sweetness — Twist & Buckle strikes a good balance, allowing the churros’ natural flavours to shine through.

It is a refreshing twist on the traditional churros, which is often coated thickly with sugar.

With over 10 flavours to choose from, Twist & Buckle has something for everyone. Its glazed churros come in two sizes: A mini (two for S$7.50) and a regular (S$6.90).

The pistachio crunch was one of our favourites. The paste was light, with the chopped pistachios adding a satisfying crunch, making it a good blend of sweet and savoury nuttiness.

Another highlight was the toasted marshmallow churro. The churros are generously coated in soft marshmallows, which are then toasted on the spot. The flame melts and caramelises the sweet treat, giving it a comforting and smoky quality.

If you prefer to skip the toppings, you can opt for the original churro that’s coated simply in cinnamon sugar (from S$2.50).

Sharing bundles

If you’re hoping to sample a variety of flavours in smaller potions, the party boxes filled with seven mini churros are a great option. Party box 1 (S$17.90) has original churros with two dips, while party box 2 (S$25.90) features glazed churros.

For those who prefer a heartier portion or are looking to share with friends, the value deals offer five regular-sized churros. There’s the value deal combo 1 (S$19.90) for original churros, while value deal combo 2 (S$27.90) has glazed ones.

Extra indulgent churro sundaes

Twist & Buckle also serves up churro sundaes — a delectable combination of hot and crispy and cold and creamy in your mouth.

Among the six sundae specials to choose from, we tried the Cookie Monster (S$7.90) — it’s a dream for chocolate fans, featuring chocolate chip cookies, chocolate cereal balls, and drizzles of chocolate sauce. And yes, it’s designed to look like the character from Sesame Street!

We also had the matcha twirl (S$7.90), a matcha lover’s delight, topped with a matcha Kit Kat, soft mochi, and a dusting of matcha powder.

While we appreciated the Cookie Monster’s rich chocolate flavour, the matcha twirl won us over with the blend of earthy matcha and subtle sweetness.
