Myx: Cosy Holland Village bar with a vinyl listening corner and one-for-one Happy Hour cocktails
Holland Village isn’t quite what it used to be, but here’s a good dinner spot to add to your must-visit list, if you’re ever in the area: The new Myx.

Opened by the same group behind concepts such as Moxie and Cudo, Myx is an intimate little bar-bistro located in the quainter Chip Bee Garden area that’s perfect for date nights.
The decor is wonderfully cosy, filled with fluted wooden panels and snazzy artwork, with whispers of foliage to give it a little bit of that Bohemian chic edge.

Besides the warm and welcoming living-room-esque atmosphere, Myx also has a little corner that’s filled up with an eclectic vinyl collection, a record player, and a headphone for anyone who wants to indulge in some beats.
As for the food, the menu is a charming mix of Latin American and Asian elements, throwing back to group executive chef Steve Chou’s roots.

As a Taiwanese who spent years cutting his teeth at kitchens across the States, he wanted to showcase some of the flavours he fell in love with in the Latin neighbourhoods of New York and the Southern states.
The result is an array of creative dishes that you probably won’t find anywhere else in Singapore.
The new Holland Village date spot

While we feel like we can fill up just on the vibes alone, Myx does strive to treat us with a vibrant medley of flavours.
The menu varies between brunch, lunch, and dinner, but the team suggests coming for dinner for the most holistic presentation of chef Steve’s ideas.
One very bold and unexpected interpretation of a Latin American staple is the red prawn ceviche (S$23) that’s wildly different from the traditional, serving cooked prawns drenched in a tomato-pepper broth.

This one has fresh crunchy prawns and the sauce is sweet and spicy with a nice bit of pepperiness — rich in flavour and almost like Spanish gambas.
Dips are, of course, a huge part of the cuisine, and the artichoke dip (S$15) was simply chef’s kiss.
Light and crunchy tortilla chips coated in the creamy dip, while sporting a sexy whiff of truffle fragrance? Exactly what every table needs to get the party started.

And if you’re here on a date, don’t be shy and fill up on the tipples — Myx has some very interesting cocktails on the menu.
It’s even better if you can get off work early for Myx’s Happy Hour (Tues to Sun, 3pm to 7pm), which not only features S$10 drinks such as highballs, but also offers one-for-one on selected cocktails!
The selection is quite varied, ranging from the simple and refreshing The Valley (S$17), which combines gin, basil, and mint, to the unique and comforting Maybemoo (S$20), a nice, toasty clarified drink made with kahlua and cinnamon!
Myx’s creative flavours

In the department of bigger plates — since Myx is more suited to communal-style dining — one of the more interesting ones has to be the Dirrrty chicken rice (S$32).
It’s basically like chicken rice — if it wasn’t made in Singapore, that is — eclectically combining black-pepper roast chicken, adobo, chorizo, and Dirty rice (a rice dish from Louisiana with ground meat and vegetables).

The Dirty rice is umami and has a nice depth of flavour, and pairs solidly with the chilli, and smoky and well-seasoned roast chicken.
Rice might be nice, but noods would be good too, and that’s the cue for Myx’s kani (crab) miso linguine (S$34).

The sauce is interesting: Buttery with a moderate touch of miso flavour, but the crab’s sweetness is the main star.
If you need a big protein plate, you can add on an order of Myx’s grilled iberico (S$38) that features a succulent slab of pork secreto.
What’s secreto? It’s a cult-favourite iberico-pork cut that’s hidden between the shoulder and loin, which has higher marbling and more flavour.

The secreto is well grilled and goes oh-so-well with condiments of tangy pickled plums and fragrant burnt red onion puree.
Fun and lively flavours, paired with the cosy decor and one-for-one Happy Hour cocktails?
I think it’s fair to say Myx has potential to become one of the best restaurants in Holland Village for a date night!
