McDonald’s Singapore launches new curry McNuggets, while nasi lemak burger & Coke float return
There are probably not as many iconic fast-food pairings in Singapore as the McNuggets and curry sauce.
A nine-piece box all dunked into that sweet and moreish brown sauce? The quintessential supper item for sinful nights.
Knowing how much Singaporeans love their McNuggets with curry sauce, we think Singaporeans would probably love the newest launch by McDonald’s Singapore: Curry chicken McNuggets!
This was a timely release as the curry sauce was actually launched in Singapore in 1995 so this year marks its thirtieth anniversary!
McDonald’s Singapore really thought: “Why don’t we just put it straight into the nuggets?”
It will be released on Feb 24 and accompanied by the return of the beloved nasi lemak burger and Coke float, all of which will be available at all McDonald’s outlets for a limited time only.
A Singapore original
The curry chicken McNuggets (from S$8.70 for an Extra Value meal, available in six-, nine- or 20-pieces) are a new, original creation for Singapore, just like everyone’s favourite McSpicy.
This modified version of the classic nuggets comes with a sexy kiss of curry fragrance. It’s enough to add a pleasant richness, but not too much that it overpowers.
Texture-wise, the curry McNuggets are close to the original flavour’s. We’ve heard some diehard fans gripe about the differing textures of the spicy McNuggets — so this is good to know, if you’re one of them!
If you’re wondering which sauces are best to pair with these curry McNuggets, it is probably the honey mustard, which nicely complements the curry fragrance with its piquancy and mild spice.
While the curry McNugets are an exciting new introduction, we suspect some might probably be more hyped for the other big news: The return of the nasi lemak burger (from S$9.75 for an Extra Value meal).
It’s a fitting companion to the new menu addition, being one of the most popular local-inspired items in the beloved fast-food chain’s repertoire.
It’s everything we remember it to be — that familiar nasi-lemak-inspired medley of fried chicken, fried egg, caramelised onions, cucumber and the umami spicy sambal sauce. Rich, fragrant and oh-so-satisfying.
To cap it all off, we also see the comeback of a McDonald’s classic, the Coke float (from S$4.50) that’s served with vanilla soft-serve.
Creamy and refreshing, we can’t think of a better way to wash down all the spice-laden goodness of the curry McNuggets and nasi lemak burger.
And well, we’re sure this round of launches will be a hit with many Singaporeans. The familiar and comforting taste of curry with McNuggets? Who could say no to that?
